Are there composers who you can really recommend who are not household names (old or new)?

Joe Kraemer. Composed a great score for "The Way Of The Gun" and has worked on lots of other films. Needs that big break.

Phillip Shepherd. Composed the awesome score for "In The Shadow Of The Moon." Totally underrated. Too bad.

YES. A thousand times yes. One of the best scores of the last 10 years.

Adam Gorgoni's score to "Starting Out in the Evening" was excellent, IMO.

Michael McCuistion.
the fact that more people don't know about this genius is a crime. his theme for "Green Lantern" on that Superman cartoon show is easily the best superhero theme to come out of the 90's if not the best superhero theme ever. watch the cartoon on youtube if you haven't seen it. the soundtrack for the episode if floating somewhere on the web, can't disclose where because I don't feel like getting banned for life

Steve Edwards
fantastic composer who wrote one of the most endearing love theme for "Cowboys and Angels".

Marc Tschanz wrote a terrific score to the Daniel Craig-Toni Collette starrer HOTEL SPLENDIDE, but like Kraemer it is his only released CD and is out of print.

I'm not sure I'd label guys like Jonathan Sheffer and Christopher Gordon as 'unknown'. Underrated, perhaps, but not 'unknown'. At least not to people like us.

George Shaw and Guy Farley were two of the most exciting discoveries for me during past few years. They are hardly unknown to some but certainly aren´t appreciated as much as they should smile

Kenji Kawai, Shoji Yamashiro, Yoko Kanno (mostly a song writer ut oh, what songs and also much more).

All have written significant music, but if you don't follow Anime and the like they are likely to be overlooked even by this crowd.

With a subject like this, I always come back to Amotz Plessner. I don't know if I want to recommend renting the likes of "Deal of a Lifetime", "Addams Family Reunion" and "Digimon: the Movie", but trust me, the music is fantastic.

Your "clients" constitute a great such list, Mikael, except maybe Basil Poledouris, Dario Marianelli and Nicholas Dodd, who are all quite famous.

Of the scores by Mr. Edwards that I have heard I must recommend his score to the Steven Seagal movie The Patriot (directed by ace cinematographer Dean Semler), not to be confused with the John Williams scored Roland Emmerich directed Mel Gibson/Heath Ledger starrer with the same name.

That movie is awful but Stephen "Steve" Edwards' score to this film is fantastic. This score is in need of a CD release. Anyone else agree?

That list reminds me of another question: where should one go for international score buying?
