I believe this is what is known as circumventing the board rules by starting a political thread without identifying it as such. If so, it's exactly the kind of deceptive tactics (not to mention smugness) I've come to suspect from people of a certain ideological orientation. In any case, since I've called this out as a political thread Sheriff Joe can now lock it, and if I'm wrong Steve can start a new thread stating more directly what his intentions were.

OK? For us non-US people (of which there are many), any such kind of veiled political message goes over our heads. Any particular US current event that spawned this?

Like others, I thought this was about Steven getting laid or married or something.

Um, excuse me... Steve is celebrating the date of November 3rd as it only comes once a year.

Also, perhaps you should just leave the decision of thread locking up to Sheriff Joe.

The American political party of which the current American President is not a member won a couple of elections last night, and for reasons passing understanding, members of that party are basking in the astonishing afterglow of what is actually a pretty run-of-the-mill event. Of course, the American political party of which the current American President IS a member won some elections too, so...big whoop.

To say they won a "couple" elections would be quite the understatement.

I haven't been able to enjoy "Tonight" since Johnny Carson stepped down. smile

OTOH, I do enjoy "Tonight" when I hear "West Side Story". smile

Not really. There wasn't a great deal up for grabs last night -- the biggies were two governorships and a special election for a House seat. The Republicans went 2-1 in those. As I said, "Big whoop". It's not some massive bellwether indicator of Dark Things for Democrats. (Not that it's great news for Democrats either.)

What's all this, then?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I sure am enjoying this evening. Very nice. Almost like last night.

For the reasons you feel are passing understanding, one only need look at the same sort of events in 1993, and what happened in 1994!
