There are 3 things I have learned never to discuss with people: religion, politics, and The Great Pumpkin.

The American political party of which the current American President is not a member won a couple of elections last night, and for reasons passing understanding, members of that party are basking in the astonishing afterglow of what is actually a pretty run-of-the-mill event. Of course, the American political party of which the current American President IS a member won some elections too, so...big whoop.

For the reasons you feel are passing understanding, one only need look at the same sort of events in 1993, and what happened in 1994!

Why? Aside from the parties themselves, the parallels aren't that strong at all. The actual political situation right now doesn't mirror the run-up to 1994 very much.

Has Sarah Palin become a member of this board now? Should I be watching 'Fox News' for some 'Fair and Balanced' reporting?

I wasn't debating it, I was citing the reason. There is nothing more deplorable to me than the two major political parties (and their representatives), in the United States. But, if anything, the political situation is far worse than it was in 1993. There are far more Independents who can be swayed to either of the two loser parties. I guess the Republicans see them going to their loser party, and away from the other loser party, just like they did in 1993 for the NJ and VA races. In 1994, it went their way, in a big way. I don't see it as such a stretch, now.

If you don't discuss those three things with people, with what do you discuss them?

To say they won a "couple" elections would be quite the understatement.

I'm so pleased to see that the people who've jumped the shark are now suffering from delusions of grandeur. Silk purses from sow's ears!

Strange, how so many people in the White House party feel this need to imitate the pet shop owner in the dead parrot sketch. smile
