Hallo.

The UK release of the complete season one of SPACE 1999 (the special edition),
seems to have the isolated scores for all episodes!

My questions are:
Does someone can confirm, that its true?
How is the soundquality?
Is there much more music as on the 2-cd set of season 1
released by FANDERSON?
Does the new Australien box of season one, witch was released
now, also included the isolated scores (all other extras seems
to be identical to the UK-box)?

Thank you for your help!

I haven't watched my DVD set for a long time - there are music only tracks, but not on all the episodes, as far as I remember (I never listened to them all, or the 5.1 mixes). Likewise, as far as I recall the sound quality was nothing like what it would be on a dedicated CD.

I would have said that if you're a Space:1999 fan, the Network Year 1 set is a must; if you're thinking of buying solely for music tracks, I'd say not to bother.

The Australian set is a repackaging of the Network set. If you 'Google' the Network set, I'm sure you could pick up more information and opinions. This is just my opinion.

Yes there are music only tracks on the episodes, for every episode except those with a commentary (Breakaway, for example). The isloated score tracks are a good supllement to the existing CDs, particulary in the cases of cirrect mixes and a few pieces not included on the Fanderson set. The act I break in Collision Course comes to mind for missing cues, and the "Lee Russell tries to escape Medical" guitar riff is severely muted on album. However, the cue is really edited down in the episode, so it's a trade off.

I'd love it there would be a Region 1 release of this set. I have the PAL, but it is - of course - slightly sped up due to the region differences.

Thanks for the infos.

I think, i dont will spent money for that box, because i allready got the germany DVD release of MONDBASIS ALPHA, witch is ok (but didnt include the isolated scores).
IF i would by the UK set, it would be only fore the isolated tracks and so i will follow the advise, not to buy it, because of the poor editing and soundquality of the isolated score.

Best whishes.

The UK box set features re-mastered prints, which are a considerable improvement over the older ones used for the German box set.

Some comparisons here:

Personally, I think the set IS worth getting. The iso sound is not THAT bad (mono, compressed and a bit thin, but quite listenable), and there are gems to be discovered that aren't available anywhere else like Jim Sullivan's complete electric sitar score for The Troubled Spirit, some nice electronic cues by Barry Gray, and more.

I must admit that my enthusiasm for Space:1999 is waning as I get older and not so long ago I'd have agreed with all that you say Heath, but the completist in me has pretty much gone these days.

It took me a long time to get around to completing all the extras in the Year 1 DVD set - I bought the set primarily for the improved picture and tired very quickly of listening to the isolated music.

It was nice to hear the complete sitar score though; a friend of mine once asked Fanderson why the entire score wasn't on their CD and he received a rather bizarre reply along the lines of "Well how much sitar music can anyone really listen to, especially when this score is all the same?"

It wouldn't surprise me if the (complete) scores from the Gerry Anderson series resurfaced on the Network label at some point.

ABSOLUTLY.

And that is another reason for me to wait before I spent money for the DVD-set, because I think (and hope) too, that there is coming something from the Network label someday!
I dont know wich label has the rights now (I hope, Fanderson does not, because its so hard to get on theire releases).

I think, a complete release of the music of SPACE 1999 season one would be some of Networks best seller of theire ITC soundtrack releases and iam shure, they absolutly aware of it!

Maybe someone from the Network label can tell if something is planed in the future?

Network do not release any indication of their plans in advance.
