Besides, orchestral music is often also out-of-synch with the period it's portraying. It's just that we're used to it, because it's convention. And God forbid someone tries anything new! roll eyes

I'm with you on this one, Thor. Somehow, a European classical idiom that's a couple of centuries old is what we now associate with any film that takes place before, say, the Roaring '20s. I'm not knocking it – I happen to enjoy that style of music. But it's no more accurate for most films it's married to than any other choice, and frankly, since when must the device of scoring (as opposed to source cues) somehow be in sync with the timeframe of the movie?

That said, I really don't imagine Haslinger's score will be trying anything new. But as you say, I should reserve judgment until I hear it. Maybe I'll be delightfully surprised!

Again, I'm very sorry to see Elfman go, but I'll wait with the judgements on his replacement's efforts untill, you know, I've actually HEARD IT and SEEN IT IN CONTEXT.

Please let me know what it's like to pass your hand through a bandsaw, because, you know you can't comment or suppose something is horribly painful until you've experienced it, right? smile

Just how I feel when I see Elfman's name listed next to the latest Superhero movie adaptation for the zillionth time. Hope your skin's thick enough to read that. razz

I think this is one of those rare occassions where Thor is absolutely spot on.

The second paragraph: "Elfman has already written and recorded what, by all accounts was a traditional, grandly gothic effort a la Kilar’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula." smile

Oh my God! I want to hear this!!!! I bet it's absolutely awesome!!!

Joe
