So, I decided I wanted a few boxes of Hostess O's (since I haven't had any in about 20 years) and used a Visa gift card to purchase them via Chocodiles.com. Not sure how, but the whole process went through Paypal after I provided my e-mail address - they said I already had an account with them (which I know I never have). Three weeks passed, I got nothing, so I called the company that provided the Visa gift card, and they referred me to Paypal. I called Paypal, filed a complaint and was told that they might not be able to recover any money, even if they find in my favor. Five days later (tonight) I receive these e-mails from Paypal with 10 minutes of each other: The first e-mail reads: RESOLUTION OF YOUR CASE We have concluded our investigation into your case and have decided in your favor. We were able to recover $33.95 USD and this amount has been credited to you. Please allow five business days for this adjustment to be posted. The follow-up e-mail reads: RESOLUTION OF BUYER COMPLAINT After careful review, we have concluded our investigation of the Buyer Complaint described below. We have decided in your favor, however, we were unable to recover any funds from the seller's account. As stated in the PayPal User Agreement, recovery of funds associated with a Buyer Complaint cannot be guaranteed. They went from successfully collecting the funds to saying nothing's there to collect. Everything's done electronically, so I feel the money was there. I think Paypal pocketed the funds and used that "we may not be able to collect the funds" as a way to justify not giving anything to the complaining party (me). I mean, what can you really do to prove they did collect the funds and are simply retaining them for their own profit? I've heard so many bad things about Paypal, and that's why I refuse to use them. Time to contact Consumer Affairs and/or the Better Business Bureau, for all the good it'll do. All this crap over some light, moist, fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth donuts that are rarer than an original Horner score.

Why are you buying packaged pastries on the internet? Why not go down to the local 7-11 or STOP AND GO, or any drug store/supermarket? Or any place you buy gas, like RAC-TRAK or QUICK STOP?

Depends on who you're dealing with I suppose. I use Paypal to accept payments when someone buys my Char-El CDs, and have always gotten speedy and accurate service. I also have bought some stuff over the years from DVD dealers etc. with nary a problem.

Why not just buy their powdered donuts and a jar of organic raspberry jam and knock yourself out?

Have used Paypal over a dozen times, almost always for eBay purchases, and have never had a problem with it.

I've had a LOT of problems with PayPal over the years. Now that eBay requires it, I've simply stopped using eBay.

Here's a novel idea - call them. They have really good customer service and if you explain about both e-mails I'm sure they'll help you out. I've had to call them on several occasions where restaurants, for example, double swiped my card and I got charged twice - they removed the extra charge instantly - if you don't get satisfaction from the person you're speaking with, ask to speak to a supervisor.

This sounds more like a problem with the supplier than PayPal. I've used PayPal extensively for many years and have never had a problem. They have simplified internet purchasing enormously.

I only use Paypal because I have to. Years ago, I was trying to buy CDs off someone that I didn't know had a bad rep of stealing money and running off with it. I sent him $80 via Paypal and waited for them to get to me. While waiting, my Ebay account was hacked and someone posted a long, long line of knock-off handbags. Ebay was very quick about taking it down and suggested I change my password and check my Paypal account (because they're interconnected, being the same company? I don't know). Instead of simply changing my password on Paypal and not wanting to take chances with someone having access to my checking account - I closed the Paypal account and opened a second one. A couple weeks pass and those CDs I ordered and payed for never showed up. The seller never emailed me back. I was pissed. I contacted Paypal who told me that they can't resolve issues on closed or canceled accounts even though they had all the information from the transaction, my account, my information. No clear explaination other than "We're lazy". I sent my bank after them, calling the transaction illegal and without consent and I got my $80. A month later, I get a letter from a collection agency that Paypal has sent after me, asking me either for $80 or my ass in small claims court. My bank was sympathetic but said they couldn't get involved in a cross-state transaction with a third party money handler with a closed account and blah blah blah. I sent Paypal the $80 check with FUCK YOU (and a couple words I won't type here) written across the bill in black magic marker. They've since once screwed up another transaction of mine, but I've been much more careful in using them. They're a terrible service and one that has a LOT of complaints filed against them with the BBB. Clark Howard constantly rips them apart on his AM radio program, much to their embarassment (I think he's had a Paypal rep on once or twice and Howard has questioned their policies to the point where they hang up). An awful company run by awful people.

I recently found out ebay doe NOT except any other payment other than paypal. They say they are cutting down on fraud, I guess that's good, but I liked paying with a money order as well. I think they should have still left other paying methods.
