Just saw this, and found that there wasn't really a thread about it. I thought it was a nice low key score, with a couple of shining moments (usually during the flashback scenes). But it was the end credits that blew me away. He adds a never before heard secondary theme with the first one, and the string writing is gorgeous. I just wish there had been an opportunity for that to play during an actual scene... but at least he got to sneak it in there at the end.
On that note, anyone know where I could purchase just the end credits online somewhere?
This is a beautiful, perfectly elegiac score by the tremendously talented Chris Young. Do not hesitate picking it up, thinking there might be a re-issue in the future. There might not be one.
I agree this is a wonderful score and I echo the recommendations to buy it now. How many times have we gotten a Christopher Young expansion, anyway? It usually seems like he likes to make an album for listening (like the recent Intrada release) rather than putting out complete releases, so I wouldn't hold your breath.
I enjoyed this score so much I sought out the film, which had a less than stellar rep given its pedigree. I found it very well made and entertaining, and Young's evocative score fits the mood of the proceedings perfectly.

Grab it and GO! Happy listening.
This says it precisely. This is one of my favorite of Chris Young's scores.
Anyone want to make me a good offer on an "FYC" copy of The Shipping News"? This is the first time I've ever done something like this.
You might get better attention if you post this on the trading post section. There's less activity in that section of the board and so it is less likely to be missed.
