Presenting the world premiere score-only release of renowned composer Jerry Goldsmith’s (THE OMEN, PATTON, BASIC INSTINCT, GREMLINS) original score to the beloved 1987 Warner Bros. sci-fi/action-adventure/comedy INNERSPACE, starring Dennis Quaid, Martin Short, Meg Ryan and directed by Joe Dante. Goldsmith’s classic mix of synth and orchestra finds the perfect pitch of suspense, adventure and romance to propel Dante’s wonderfully off-beat genre mash-up. Produced by MV Gerhard and Mike Matessino, and remastered by Mike Matessino from WB vault elements, this definitive release of INNERSPACE features more than 50 minutes of previously unreleased music, and includes exclusive, in-depth liner notes by Dan Goldwasser and Jeff Bond (with new interview comments from Joe Dante and others). Innerspace is my favorite Goldsmith/Dante collaboration, both film and score. This is a release that has me really excited, and I can't wait to have it in my hands. I'm giving the old vinyl soundtrack a spin right now in anticipation. big grin

The last few years in particular seem to have been a great time for film score fans, so I'm very glad I got back in after several years out of the loop. I missed out on some things I would love to have had, but I'm glad to be back during this exciting time. smile

At 78 minutes I can forgive the lack of Narada Michael Walden, Wang Chung and Berlin songs.

I've been waiting for this release ever since the usual Dante/Goldsmith release format of a smattering of score mixed with songs (I couldn't care less about) came out on LP in the mid 80s.

FINALLY, is all I can say and a big, big thanks to the folks at La-La Land! Hopefully a score similarly hobbled will soon follow from someone: Gremlins (this is not to take away from this release in any way). It's looking better all the time!

I'm so used to the track titles I made up for the unmentionable that some of the new ones have thrown me. I assume that "Stop the Car" is the previously-titled "Gut Reaction" (which I titled "The Pod Battle" on my copy) and "Disengage" (?) underscores Tuck's return at the end and the following wedding scene?

Following The 'burbs from Varese and now Innerspace from LLL, I hope this means that new releases of Gremlins and (please, please) Explorers will be somewhere in the not too distant future. But for now, Innerspace is certainly a release to keep me on a high for months. big grin

Well, I've ordered it, but as with Back to the Future, there is part of me that still doesn't believe that it's finally available.
Unfortunately I have a couple of weeks wait for these to arrive in the UK - can't wait to listen to them.

I haven't seen the movie in over ten years - it use to drive me nuts (Martin Short is very hit or miss with me) and I don't remember a lick of the music. But its Jerry and Joe Dante, so I'm willing to take the jump. smile

I think it's one of Goldsmith's most inventive and entertaining scores, especially how the music mimics the sounds of what's happening inside Martin Short as the miniaturized Dennis Quaid travels through different parts of the body. Pure genius.

I think it's also one of Martin Short's best movies.

I remember so wanting Tuck Pendleton's exploration pod when I was kid. It was just too cool with all it's nifty little abilities. big grin

this movie is kind of creapy - there is a skeleton inside Martin Short's Body in this film - i don't like that thought about a dead human inside me - not even if he was trying to kill our hero

Not to worry, it was just a passing thing...

"Jack, you just digested the bad guy."

[belch]

Anyways, ordered both this and The Fugitive to get the $5 discount on the latter. Can't wait. big grin

I like when Tuck brings up a similar topic with Jack and tells him that if they don't hurry, "you're gonna have this pod floating around inside your body with a little tiny human skeleton inside," and Jack is clearly grossed out by the idea. LOL!!

Okay, after giving the vinyl album a spin earlier, I may have to throw the DVD on later tonight after the Sharks game. I'm clearly jazzed about this release. big grin

I'm sure no one from the labels will come out and answer these questions (nor should they, really), but the original INNERSPACE album was on Geffen, right? As was GREMLINS. I'd always thought dealing with Geffen was a huge obstacle vis-a-vis rights issues for new releases. Did they still own the rights to INNERSPACE? Do they still own the rights to GREMLINS? Is this a once-locked door now opened, a la Disney and Paramount?

More generally, whose doors are still locked? Polydor?

So many questions!

The film music release of the year!

I don't pretend to know how these kind of things work, but Polydor did the original Temple of Doom soundtrack (I'm pretty sure), and that was just re-released last year by Concord Records. I would assume a label's right to a soundtrack simply expires after a certain amount of time and reverts back to someone who could license them out again to someone else, so perhaps that's how some of these great releases can be made?

One of Goldsmith's ABSOLUTE best of the eighties - I could listen to this score over and over....can't say the same for GREMLINS which has some outstanding stuff in it but doesn't hold my interest quite the same way.... I know, SACRILEGE!

Thanks so much LALA-LAND....so totally ordered - THE FUGITIVE is such a wonderful surprise...JNHoward so totally deserved his Oscar nomination for this one!

I have to agree, "Gremlins" is great but "Innerspace" provides repeat listens.
