I watched this film again, for the first time in many moons.
My God, I never realised how much great music isn't on the MCA CD.
Don't get me wrong, I love the original issue, but this score is crying out for expansion.
There are some incredible variations on his themes which I would love to hear on CD.
I think the original CD is quite rare these days, another reason I hope Intrada/Varese/LaLa have this one on their radar for 2010, for reissue/expansion.

Wonderful film indeed and so much great music. I, being a huge Horner fan, though the original album is really quite good and may be enough for us. Though, after hearing you, I may be wrong. I may need to put this on a spin again. Isn't the MCA about 45 minutes or so?

Yeah dmd, I think the CD runs somewhere in the 40's, minutes-wise.
I just hadn't realised how much gorgeous, heartfelt, tear-jerking music was in the film, but NOT on the CD. I'd happily take another 30 some minutes of the action/sad stuff to make me cry some more!

I remember this being the film where the main titles from Honey, I Shrunk The Kids first appeared. big grin

It always frustrated me that it didn't make the CD because I've always been fond of this version.

It first appears when Carlos gets spooked by the aliens and runs away frantically with his hair standing up after being electrocuted.

On a somber note I think it was a damn shame the actor that played him "Michael Carmine" died of heart failure at only thirty years old a mere few years later. frown

Bring on some tearjerking Horner stuff!!! He certainly has helped get a few tears from me in the years. I think it's the start of either track 2 or 3 that is so pretty, yet sad.

Of course if this was expanded, I'd buy a copy, like duh, man!

I'd buy a copy even if it were just rereleased (ala Witches of Eastwick). It was already many years OOP when I started buying scores.

Speaking about Batteries not Included, I'd also love the real score from second Cocoon movie. The whole album is quite different than the music inluded in the film.

To stay with the topic, if Batteries will ever get reissued I am buying it. It's a really lovely score from an amazing film, which I sadly haven't had a chance to see for many years. Will have to find it somewhere now and also dig up the CD to give it another spin smile

This was on the telly again today and I was flooded with the same thoughts!
There is some really special unreleased music in the film that would make for a great complete release.
Echoes of Project X and Cocoon... you know, those really tender, sad moments that Horner nails so well.
With the original CD being so rare, I hope Intrada, LaLa or Kritzerland are looking at re-issuing and completing the CD.

15 years ago my original copy of this score got stolen out of my locker at school. They took my discman (yes, discman) and this album. Assholes. I really was so pissed off and sad, not because of the discman, but because of this rare album that was stolen!!! Arghhh!!!
