I just sat down with the Blu-ray for the WATCHMEN Ultimate Cut and enjoyed the heck out of it. I think it did a laudible job of representing such an extraordinary novel. Has anyone here made a chronology of songs & score? I'd love to see it. Thinking of getting both albums and doing my own iTunes playlist. Also, I assume the music from TALES OF THE BLACK FREIGHTER, which is interpolated into WATCHMEN for this cut, is not available? I haven't been able to find a listing for it anywhere.

Anyone know where all the songs fit in? I think this is the complete list: 1) Take a Bow - Muse [was this only used in the trailer?] 2) The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning - Smashing Pumpkins [was this only used in the trailer?] 3) Unforgettable - Nat King Cole 4) The Times They Are a-Changin - Bob Dylan 5) 99 Luftballons - Nena 6) The Sound Of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel 7) Ride Of The Valkyries 8) Me And Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin 9) I'm Your Boogie Man - KC & The Sunshine Band 10) You're My Thrill - Billie Holiday 11) Pruit Igoe & Prophecies - Philip Glass 12) Everybody Wants To Rule The World - Tears for Fears 13) Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen 14) Clyde - Waylon Jennings 15) All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix 16) Desolation Row - My Chemical Romance 17) First We Take Manhattan - Leonard Cohen 18) Pirate Jenny - Nina Simone

I'd really wish I knew what in God's name made them put on a cover - nevermind a *really* shitty cover - of Dylan's Desolation Row into this movie. You can tell from the outset - that from the simple existence of the film - that Zach Snyder has an absolute failing in the basic premise of the written word or the point of the story. Ugh. Which version did you see, LeHah? Theatrical, director's cut or Ultimate Cut?

Thoughts these several years later on the score for WATCHMEN? For me, the first track ("Rescue Mission") is both wonderful (the choral crescendo is goose-bump-inducing) AND its basic notes a steal from Elfman's Batman theme. "Don't Get Too Misty Eyed" shows that Tyler Bates can write a beautiful, wistful melody. Call me nuts, but I could see it working as a Bond love theme. Lovely writing for violin. There are, on the other hand, stylistic choices I could do without, "Prison Fight" being an example of one. Just noise to my ears... and I'm a Black Sabbath fan.

For me, the first track ("Rescue Mission") is both wonderful (the choral crescendo is goose-bump-inducing) AND its basic notes a steal from Elfman's Batman theme. Who plagiarizes the plagiarists? Actually the basic notes are from Herrmann's JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttV5C5evB7Y Aw, man, of course! It's one of those Herrmann scores I don't have. Have heard in passing but never had. Perhaps that should change.
