I wonder if the rights to the score lie with the producer of the documentary (Photoplay Productions) or the "distributor" (Turner Classic Movies). If it's the latter, FSM might have a shot at it.

I heard it was recorded at the same session as the re-recording of KINGS OF THE SUN was.
The Main and End Titles from Elmer Bernstein's wonderful final score for this 2004 documentary:
Lovely music! Being Bernstein's final score, and in the vein of some of his most beloved classic epics, it is quite surprising that this hasn't been released as it really seems like it would sell quite well.

I wonder how much music is in the documentary. Bernstein's score for "Martin Scorsese: A Personal Journey Through American Movies" only runs about 3 minutes.
Wow, that is really beautiful! Thanks so much for posting. Wish we had more.
Just watched the 2 hours of this on YouTube. There is a lot of underscore, particularly in the first half on silent films. Interesting to hear what Elmer does over the silent versions of King of Kings and Ten Commandments. He has significant interview time in part 2. There is plenty to make a great CD.

I have been talking with Photoplay Productions for over 10 years...ever since I recorded this with Elmer and The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra....a memorable few days as we recorded Kings of the Sun in same week. I will speak to them again this week......
Would love to add cues from Bernstein's masterful HOLLYWOOD AND THE STARS TV series, too. Wonderful main title, which has been recorded once, on Silva as I recall, but it didn't have nearly the stature of the original tracks. I also remember very effective music Bernstein used for an episode on silent films, for the siege of Babylon, from D.W.Griffith's INTOLERANCE. So there is probably more than that, though I seriously doubt the original tracks still exist.

Thanks James!
The 2 hour documentary is on YouTube for free! Guys, try to watch it. It's an excellent documentary and Elmer's music is wonderful. Even near the end of his life Elmer was in top form. It would be great if this fine score would be issued on CD. Please try James.

HOLLYWOOD AND THE STARS was a great TV series from about 1964. I saw them all as they came out. I believe other composers worked on the series as well as Elmer. I think about 34 were made.
YouTube now has many episodes for free! Highly recommended. My Favorite: MONSTERS WE HAVE KNOWN AND LOVED."
Joseph Cotten's voice was perfect as the narrator.

Definitely has the feeling of passion and a sadness of days long gone that his HOLLYWOOD AND THE STARS Theme so strongly conveyed. I remember that show being on when I was a kid around 10 years old and hearing the theme which always made me feel such a great sadness. A beautiful sadness if you will. There is a similar feeling and sound like this in Bernstein's FOUR DAYS IN NOVEMBER Documentary score about the JFK Assassination. Great great music all and so deserving of a release.
Here is Elmer's Finale music for FOUR DAYS IN NOVEMBER. Enjoy!
