The FBI has arrived.

My set arrived today and I have eagerly devoured the first four episodes. This is by far my favorite period of the show, when Lewis Erskine was allowed to be a three-dimensional person, and when the tone of the show was a little bit more "Naked City" than "Dragnet" as it would ultimately become (and I really prefer the absence of Marvin Miller's silly wraparound narration that began in Season 2).

And I also have to say that Bronislau Kaper wrote some terrific scores (in addition to his great theme music) for these early episodes as well that deserve a CD release of their own.

My only memory of The F.B.I. is the opening title sequence, and I can hear clear as a bell in my head right now the announcer saying Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. My grandfather watched it in syndication some time in the '70s when I was little. I'll have to check it out on DVD. I love '60s crime TV and there's so much of it I still haven't seen or don't remember!

Despite a being part of the Warner Archive program which uses DVD-R instead of pressed discs, the quality has looked good on the episodes I've seen (six so far). If people have seen the show from reruns on American Life and have boots from those airings, they should start tossing them and getting these releases as they come!

Warner Archive is also promising more vintage titles later this year and that's nice since they are the one studio that has really done nothing with their vintage TV catalog for the most part.

I could have sworn there was another thread here about the music in THE F.B.I. However, this is the only thread that comes up under The FBI or THE F.B.I.

At any rate rate, I've just started re-watching the first season of this series. It's absolutely loaded with great music. Most of the scores I heard so far were by Bronislau Kaper (or, as the FBI credits say, Bronislaw Kaper) and Leo Arnaud (who, by the way, wrote that percussion and brass piece that was used as the Olympics theme until Williams took over that position). I can't wait to see/hear what I have in store in upcoming episodes.

It's a great series with GREAT music. A CD release would be wonderful. It doesn't have to be a boxed set of all the seasons (not that anyone would even DO that), but a nice, concise, 2- or 3-CD set would be marvelous. Heck, I'd be in Heaven just to get a complete set of the revised opening and closing themes from each season.

The work by Kaper for S1 was terrific and I would love to have on CD. In subsequent years, there were comparatively few original scores commissioned as Quinn Martin generally preferred to use a stock library for the most part. Dominic Frontiere did more of the new work in the next few years as he was a QM favorite from "Invaders" and his "Outer Limits" work was used heavily in the final season of "The Fugitive". I think on whole there were only about several new scores per season at most. (I can never understand why they spelled it "Bronislaw" the whole nine years).
