I just received my copy of The Man Who Would Be King from SAE yesterday and got around to playing it tonight. About 1:15 into track four the sound just suddenly cuts out completely. After sputtering back on for a second or two, the remaining minute and ten seconds or so of the track continues in silence. Then track five comes on fine. Has anyone else encountered a problem with this disc? I've contacted SAE about this, but my obvious concern is that since this disc sold out very quickly it might not be possible to get a replacement copy. Does Kriterzland (or other companies for that matter) hold back a certain number of copies in case of situations like this?

Bruce Kimmel is well aware of the situation. Email him ( kritzerland@gmail.com ) with the details of your original order, and he will replace your defective copy.

Thanks for the information, guys. I tried to search earlier threads about this release but didn't see anything about a flaw in the pressing so I thought maybe this was a unique case.

You'll have to start reading about 3/4 of the way down to get to the posts in which the defect is mentioned.

Ah, therein lies the problems with searching for a thread. From the thread title I wouldn't have guessed this would be the place to look (and probably wouldn't have tried checking once I saw the thread was 26 pages long).

26 pages? When I'm logged-in, that thread is only two pages in length. You can change the setting for the number of posts you see per page in 'Preferences' (at the bottom of the page) if you so wish.

We probably should have started a separate thread about it. Also, SAE asked us to send them a batch of replacements and that's what we did. Either way, however, works - those who send us the request get theirs directly from the pressing plant, who are great about getting them right out. In fact, I can't say enough about how they handled the stamper screwup (it really seems to have affected a little less than half the run - at least so far).

Are all discs defective? Ive only played it once and didn't notice any problems. But I might have missed it.

I totally agree. Mine arrived in four days! Replacing discs was handled very well indeed by Bruce and the guys at the plant.

No, not all discs are defective, which we have stated numerous times. Less than half were affected thus far. You would have noticed if yours was as it would not have played track four. This is what I mean by panic for no reason - several of SAE's overseas dealers made this mistake, sending Craig back discs that all played fine and that they'd never bothered to play, just making an assumption. Again, half of the batch play fine and have no problems, therefore you got a good one.

Thank you for the confirmation.

I read this thread and checked my copy to make sure. No issues there.

Be careful here. When I heard about the defective discs, I opened my copy up and played track # 4. I could detect no problems. This was on my home unit. I played the whole disc in my car unit, and had problems. Not only at the talked about time on track # 4, but elsewhere. When I played it on my home unit again with ear phones, there was a definite click on track # 1 as well as the problem with track 4. Sometimes at the 1:15 mark of track # 4 I would get a very slight click, other times a very definite series of clicks. Never did it totally stop playing. Problem may be intermittent to always occurring depending on the unit.
