I'm a little late to the party, but I just received my copy of this today. Kudos to all involved. What a fantastic set - this belongs in every soundtrack fan's collection, it is an essential recording. You’re late to the party?! I’ve just ordered this as a self-indulgent gift for my own birthday. Yay me! This was the first score I knew and can’t wait to play it. Okay so I’ve waited about seven years BUT NO LONGER! You are in for a wonderful experience, it is a great recording of a truly brillant score, thank you to James and Luc. Decided.

I’ve had the chance now to hear all three discs, and this is unbelievably high-quality stuff. The playing and recording is impeccable, of course, and really brings out the brilliance of the writing. I’ve always loved the action music and this newer recording magnifies it wonderfully. This is long-muscled and fresh, not relying on flashy, self-serving effects, or on chucking in the kitchen sink. It’s just.....right. This is the only music I associate with both my dad and my brother, neither still with us. Hearing it made me happy. Thanks to all concerned in the production of this marvellous set. Awesome post +1000! I have only listened to the first CD so far, but am already crazy about this 3 disc. I see now how dumb I've been for passing up on other scores like How the West Was Won, just because I was afraid of some saloon songs. Incredible job from Tadlow. AGAIN!

Well I belatedly got around to buying this last week, I'm not huge on these re-recordings...& it's brilliant! I can see why everyone is so enthusiastic about it. I think I'm going to have to buy The Fall Of The Roman Empire now. I'd say go for it, Rameau. While I tend not to buy recordings unless I have to (though there are some scores where I prefer the re-recording such as Quo Vadis), the Tadlow recording of Fall is splendid and just as good as the original, if not better.

I think I'm going to have to buy The Fall Of The Roman Empire now. If you really liked Alamo, Fall is one heck of a good bet. It's terrific, and this is one of the compositions where Tiomkin's elaborate over-orchestrations do work imo.
