The question is often asked as to which of our most active specialty labels have the rights to a certain score or a relationship with a particular studio. Below is a handy guide. Note that this relates to the release of the actual score tracks rather than old LPs.

Cannon / Samuel Goldwyn
BSX (Brothers at War)
Intrada (Missing In Action; The Golden Seal; Treasure of the Four Crowns)
La-La Land (Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold; Runaway Train; That Championship Season)

Columbia / Sony / TriStar
FSM (Heavy Metal)
Intrada (Night of the Creeps; The China Syndrome; The Blue and the Gray)
Prometheus (The 7th Voyage of Sinbad; Robin and Marian; The Golden Voyage of Sinbad)
Varese Sarabande (Nightwing; A Walk In the Spring Rain; Hanover Street)

Full Moon / Empire
Intrada (Re-Animator; Ghoulies; The Caller)

MGM (thru 1986)
FSM (The Cincinnati Kid; Miklos Rozsa at MGM, Shaft)

New World
BSX (Jake Speed; Starcrash)

Paramount
FSM (Marathon Man; Black Sunday; Star Trek II)
Intrada (Players)
Kritzerland (Love With the Proper Stranger; A Girl Named Tomiko)
La-La Land (Airplane; Dragonslayer; Seconds)

Twentieth Century Fox
Intrada (What Price Glory; Pickup on South Street; Black Widow)
La-La Land (Dutch; Big Trouble In Little China; Batman [1966])
Varese Sarabande (The Scout; Escape From the Planet of the Apes; Norma Rae)

United Artists / AIP / Orion / MGM (after 1986)
FSM (MGM Soundtrack Treasury)
Intrada (Rocky IV; White Lightning; Robocop)
Kritzerland (Elmer Gantry; Married To It; Cuba)
La-La Land (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels; Panic In Year Zero; Not Without My Daughter)
Varese Sarabande (Report To the Commissioner; Anna Lucasta; The Caretakers)

Universal
BSX (Terror In the Aisles)
Intrada (Back To the Future; Hellfighters; Gray Lady Down)
Varese Sarabande (The Spiral Road; Freud; Lonely Are the Brave)

Walt Disney / Cinerama-ABC
Intrada (One Little Indian; Straw Dogs; Something Wicked This Way Comes)
Varese Sarabande (Gangs of New York [rejected]; The Journey of Natty Gann [rejected])

Warner Bros.
BSX (Something the Lord Made; High Road To China; Lassiter)
FSM (Bullitt, Cleopatra Jones, Jeremiah Johnson)
La-La Land (Blazing Saddles; Eraser; The Fugitive)
Prometheus (Mike’s Murder)
Varese Sarabande (The Goonies; The Right Stuff; North and South)

Intrada releases Sony / Columbia / TriStar material too. Blue and the Gray, Body Double and China Syndrome, for example.

Nice listing though! smile

Great idea!

Varese has released some Disney owned stuff, most notably the Bernstein rejected scores box.

Convenient list! Now, of course, the next step is knowing which label released what film. I never pay attention to such things.

He, he...yeah, I just want a good film, and don't really care if it's produced by McDonald's or the Society of Postage Stamps Collectors.

IMDB has info on producers/distributors with a few clicks under "Company Credits".

Producers/Distributors who are defunct can be matched with their current owners here:

MGM owns the Cannon library, so you may as well lump Cannon in with United Artists/Orion/AIP/Post-86 MGM.

You need to add American International.

You need to add American International.

It's already there, under "United Artists / AIP / Orion / MGM (after 1986)"

True, but it didn't seem as if Kritzerland, Varese or FSM had recently issued any Cannon scores, while they had issued UA scores. Have I missed them?

I suppose, although Buena Vista, Sony, and Concord aren't generally considered to be soundtrack specialty labels.
