Well you all got me to dig up both the Kojian and the Stromberg Robin Hoods! I love the Varese recording, but can't do without the Stromberg either, especially for the first moments of Robin's appearance with that one-of-a-kind stepwise fanfare, my favorite 3 seconds of movie music ever (first heard at :57 on track 2 of the Stromberg).

Yes, there are re-recordings. and sure, you can grab the original track off the DVD or Blu-ray, but why hasn't some label released Korngold's original tracks to ROBIN HOOD, or ANTHONY ADVERSE or THE CONSTANT NYMPH? Good Lord, they have released virtually unknown scores from the '80s and '90s, yet these masterpieces remain unreleased! It's a shame.

YES!!! Maybe Bruce will tackle them when he uses the Indiegogo influx of money to go after Warner Bros.!
But I still hold out a little hope for a definitive Korngold at Warner Bros. set from LaLaLand, since I know they like Korngold, and Lukas could produce it for them! They do great box sets.

I like most of the Stromberg until the climactic duel where the performance seems to me rather stodgy. The Kojian version, though truncated, comes over as much more assured and "right sounding".
Update: I just listened to it again to be sure my memory wasn't doing it a disservice. Unfortunately, the track in question (23) is no better than I recalled. Sounds like they didn't have time for a rehearsal. What a pity they didn't record it later, for their superb Tribute series.
Another advantage of the Kojian is that it's compact enough that I almost always get through the whole thing. I've only gotten through the whole Stromberg recording once or twice. Just too much of a good thing, and yes, the orchestra could have used more time (even my favorite bit mentioned above sounds a bit more effortful than it should, certainly more than the original soundtrack recording). Even yesterday, my mind started wandering as the tournament began. But then I tend to prefer the musical suite approach.
