I didn't see this posted anywhere here, so thought I'd share the link:

Interestingly, this interview indicates that Stanley Kubrick had little choice/control over the music for "Spartacus"...this seems inconsistent with type of control Kubrick exerted on his subsequent films. Perhaps this is why Kubrick left Hollywood for England after "Spartacus" while working on "Lolita"'s pre-production?

The original director was replaced after the film had already begun shooting. I dare say, given the musical requirements of the film, that Alex North had already been involved in the project too long to make his removal feasible.

Kubrick was just a "director-for-hire" on SPARTACUS, working with a very strong producer, so it's not surprising that he would not have final say in that instance.

Correct - a REPLACEMENT (for Anthony Mann) director for hire - no control whatsover, and the last time it would ever happen to Kubrick.

Fried on Kubrick: "By the time he got to Paths of Glory, I had to justify every note." big grin

Does he discuss his exotica masterpiece "Orienta" by the Markko Polo Advendturers?

Or "Collision of the Planets," the greatest TV score of all time?

So by selling Kubrick's lost script, Fried is finally getting some payback, literally and literarily, after cheapskate Stanley pulled a Trump on him.

Exactly. It only took sixty-seven years, but good for Mr. Fried!
