I've been looking at this release on Amazon, from the picture the release seems to be in a standard double cd box, the same style as Rhino's "King of Kings" release.
As this isn't being released in the UK until June and is already available on the continent of Europe, I wondered if anyone could confirm whether this release was in either, a long box (as the Rhino was) or a standard double cd box and what sort of booklet it contains.
I'm just curious, a standard box would be a lot easier to fit on my shelves but the large booklet has a wealth of information inside.
It's the standard double CD Box - not the Rhino Long Book Oblong Box. Can't remember the booklet contents off hand.
I couldn't resist it - especially at the continental bargain price.
Mild.
Thanks for that, Mild, it is rather tempting at this price, I'll probably take the plunge and buy a copy, it'll look rather nice alongside King of Kings on the shelves.

Chris, now I have the CD case in front of me, it is:
1. Standard Size (like a single CD case) containing the 2cds, unlike Box size (King of Kings recently re-released double size) or Book Size (Rhino Ben Hur)
2. The Booklet is good - 21 pages. Excellent quality.
Thank you. Sadly, I'm in the US and the same release is being priced at $23.99 on our site (I used your search parameters this time). I don't know if buying it on the UK site would be any cheaper considering the Pound to Dollar conversion and shipping rates for international packages.
The Rhino longbook version is still available in new condition, e.g. from amazon.de - currently from 18 Euros.
It's € 15,99 and if the cover is correct Sony also re-released the longbox.
I actually believed they just added the wrong Rhino set picture to the new Sony 2CD standard case release. But on a second look, I noticed what seems to be the Sony Classical logo to the left of the bar code on the picture of the set's back side. So it might in fact be a re-print of the longbook.
It's worth just pointing out that Sony released a much older 2CD from two of the MGM albums. That one's worth picking up too. Just for the sake of the Newbies.
This is confusing. Sony are releasing the Rhino BEN-HUR in a standard double CD for the UK and as a long box in Germany (and maybe rest of Europe)? Doesn't seem to make much sense.

I ordered mine from Amazon Germany and it was the 2cd standard CD case.
Received the two-fer a couple of days ago. Very pleased to have the full monty, though, this must be a carbon copy of the Turner Classic/Rhino version that was first in the queue. Disc one clocks at about one hour and fifteen minutes, while disc two is one hour and thirteen minutes long. Disc one has a white background with Heston in his chariot driving the four whites while disc two (ditto) sees Boyd in his chariot driving the four blacks. Both disc images are black and white with the images appearing in the lower half of the disc. The booklet is 23 pages in a mixture of b&w and colour. The notes by Marilee Bradford illustrate the storyline in linear track by track sequence. The inside back page lists the musicians who took part on the MGM scoring stage between May 25 and October 9, 1959. Some of the musical selections were recorded in Rome.
It's a GREAT bargain....I've been hoping to get a jewel-case release of Ben Hur for some time now. The booklet is an abbreviated version of the long box booklet, keeping only the essay about the actual music itself, track notes. The graphics on the discs themselves are the same as the Rhino long box set, and the basic insert graphics look to be just a scaled variation of the long box. All in all a great deal
