Extended version broadcast on ABC Network in 1982
When ABC aired the movie in 1982, several new scenes were added to the film:

Several scenes featured an American detective in Washington who interviews Carl Parker's wife in connection with her husband's murder, and an Interpol investigator in Paris who interviews Mr. & Mrs. Eli Sands concerning the attacks on the Concorde.

A conversation takes place between the flight crew during the initial ferry flight from Paris to Washington; we learn that Paul Metrand, while in French Indochina consorted with a prostitute named "the Tarantula", whom Joe Patroni knew when he was fighting in the Vietnam War. (The scene where Patroni talks about the Tarantula was left in the original theatrical release.)

The Virginia State Police shoot down the "Air Peace" balloon after its near-miss with the Concorde.

Kevin Harrison opens a public housing project in a largely Black neighborhood of the Washington D.C. area.

A brief shot shows the Concorde's loss of hyrdaulic fluid after the near-miss over the French Coast.

Several brief shots showing an electrical fire near the Concorde's fuel transfer switch prior to and after its crash-landing at Patscherkofel, Austria. These scenes implied that the explosion caused after the crew and passengers evacuated the aircraft was due to this fire.

Additional scenes involving Maggie Whelen and Kevin Harrison are added, including a romantic scene where she reveals that she is pregnant with Harrison's child. The dinner scene in Paris is extended, with Harrison making reference to being in the Left Hand of God.

Maggie Whelan is shown doing a news broadcast from Moscow revealing the contents of the documents after the destruction of the Concorde.

Kevin Harrison does not commit suicide on his private jet in the ABC version, but does so at an impromptu press conference in Washington, D.C., almost before the end of Maggie Whelan's broadcast in Moscow. In this version, Harrison again refers to being in the Left Hand of God before pulling the trigger.

Scenes with Charo were cut, as were scenes showing Jimmie Walker smoking cannabis in the lavatory.

Certain scenes had profanity either edited out or dubbed with less-profane language.

I agree that the film was bad. But I remember loving the scenes with Martha Raye. She's in the lavatory every time there's a crisis and hilarity ensues.

Lalo Schifrin recently premiered his concert suite of Airport 79 (basically the end credits) recently in Dublin which did make me wonder if Adelph were planning a cd release in the near future?

I finally caught up with the last of the AIRPORT films. When are we ever going to get releases of all their scores? Here is the main title and end credits music for THE CONCORDE...AIRPORT '79.

Something I never noticed before . . . this legend from the lower right corner of the poster above:

It says "Ultra Special Effects in the ALL NEW CineSonic Process from Hartland Inc." I wonder what that is? The film's actual credits just say "Special Photographic Effects . . . UNIVERSAL HARTLAND.

I'm at the scene were the first missile (or missiles?) is trying to strike the Concorde. Pilots on overdrive. Dramatic music. Passengers screaming. Supersonic violently making turns trying to avoid fatal strike. Overhead compartments opening, stuff falling all over, chaos.

Just made a loop de loop laundromat style in mid-air. Really? More screams, more chaos and of course more overhead compartments snap open with more stuff all over. Surprised nobody has thrown up.

Comes out fron toilet... Oh, Captain?... Who's driving the plane??? It's on automatic pilot ma'am. Goes back to toilet. Shuts door. Captain Patroni walks away... straight-faced professional and all.

Bad movie, ridicuously entertaining in a rolling eyes way. Good film music though throughout with bold main/end themes. No soundtrack release still. Why hasn't this Lalo Schifrin been released? Master tapes don't exist? Schifrin does not approve? Have soundtrack labels tried to release this but couldn't for some reason? Is there no interest in releasing this by them? No explanations. Who owns the rights? Damn I would love to see a release. It's long overdue.

A movie soooo bad its got two scores.
The Cipirani score CD makes no mention of Schifrin at all.
I find that really odd from an informational standpoint.
Clearly the studios felt Cipriani'a music was inappropriate for the US release but a sentence or two about it would be nice to read.
I wonder though if the US version still contains some of Cipriani's score in some capacity.

And too bad about ALEPH RECORDS,
They seem to have gone into hibernation or they would have issued AIRPORT '79 on CD by now.

LOVE "Symphonic Schifrin" and would pick up this and THE MANITOU in a heartbeat. How that 70's orchestral sound warms the heart!

2 Different films:

Schifrin scored THE CONCORDE: AIRPORT '79 (aka AIRPORT '80 The Concorde)

While Cipriani scored CONCORDE AFFAIRE '79 (aka The Concorde affair and about a dozen other AKA's)

was 10 years old at the time, and saw both at the cinema.
The Concorde was 'the plane' at the time, remember going to the local airport here in Ostend because it was landing for a special occasion. Exciting times for a ten year old smile

Despite the presence of a number of second-tier American stars, CONCORDE AFFAIRE '79 never played theatrically in America. The film premiered in Italy four months before THE CONCORDE--AIRPORT '79 opened in the U.S.

Here in Belgium, 'The Concorde Affair' also got a theatrical release.
