Man, I hope that is really happening! Having the Alien 3 score isolated would be a dream come true. Also, it's really pointless to have Jerry's orignal score isolated unless they release the workprint (since most of the tracks don't sync up at all in the theatrical cut) And the film version of combat drop from ALIENS! Hey, does anyone know if the music where the queen is first revealed is tracked form somewhere else or if it is an actual unreleased cue? It sounds like the main title, where the salvage team boards the Narcissus, but I'm not certain...

I would guess the isolated track will have Horner's original cues, not the replacement stuff and tracking in the final film version

True, a cd would be ideal. But this would certainly take the sting off the wait!

Also, it's really pointless to have Jerry's orignal score isolated unless they release the workprint (since most of the tracks don't sync up at all in the theatrical cut) The original DVD release contained both the score as originally intended and as the film version as seperate isolated tracks. Although this didn't happen for the 'Quadology' box set, hopefully Fox will go down this route with the blu ray's. My concern is that European BD editions of Patton,Sand Pebbles and Tora Tora Tora don't contain the isolated scores (although the Planet of the Apes box set does). Fox really don't like us in the UK! But those isolated score tracks were largely out of sync because Jerry composed those sequences when the film was paced much differently. What's the point of watching this music isolated if the images aren't what Jerry wrote the music to? My main point is that it would be great to have the actual workprint released, so we can actually see what Jerry intended with his music.

Michael is right. It would be amazing if the disc contained the workprint and the iso score was set to that. I would LOOOOooove to see that. Same with Horner's ALIENS score, some cues don't line up any more due to last minute editing. Would be cool if they used seamless branching to add/remove footage to make all the music fit as intended

Would be cool if they used seamless branching to add/remove footage to make all the music fit as intended I can say that with ALIENS, that's pretty much untrue. One of my hobbies is to make my own isolated score-type presentations, where instead of editing the music to fit the film, I do the opposite and edit the film to fit the music - but only if it's necessary to do so. ALIENS was one of the first I ever made (I make them into DVDs) and every cue from The Deluxe Edition fit like a glove, without any revisions to the film at all. It was very, very surprising to learn that they fit so easily. If the score was restored to Horner's original intention, every cue would fit the film, save for the closing notes of the end titles, but in my presentation I used the alternate for that.

That makes sense. Aliens' post production was much more rushed than Alien's. I doubt the 1st cut was much different from the director's cut. Also, there are hardly any stills of scenes deleted that we haven't seen (save for the Burke cocoon scene)

The blu ray should be something really special then. If the blu ray does go by the final film score rather than Horner's intentions, though... do you distribute your work?

Between this and the new commentary on the Evil Dead disc, it's looking increasingly likely that I'll have to buy a Blu-Ray player in the near future.
