...you'd like him or her to see. I am currently watching "Fright Night" and I was reading about David Cronenberg's latest film starring Viggo Mortensen. And there hit hit me. Viggo Mortensen would be a great casting choice for a vampire. He's got that look to do the part.

Viggo Mortensen as Jerry Dandridge in FRIGHT NIGHT?
Not a bad idea.

My No 1 dream casting choice would that they did a remake of the 1922 lost film LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT starring Lon Chaney...

...and in the new remake the would cast Christoper Lloyd as the Vampire.

My favorite Richard Burton impression is the one Burton brilliantly did of himself in CANDY. I love how his hair and scarf are always blowing in the (imaginary) wind for dramatic effect.

I would love to cast Stephen Dorff as William Shatner in a film showing the "lean years," right after the STAR TREK series was canceled, but before STTMP, when he had to do dinner theater to keep up with his alimony payments. I'd include the scene in which a little kid encounters him in his mobile home, parked in the parking lot of one of the theaters where he's appearing.

"Are you Captain Kirk?"

"Yes. . . . And this is my spaceship."

How about Adam West as an elderly "Iceman" like killer who's previous life is catching up to him?

Chris Sarandon did just great in the original, and the remake was schlocky and superfluous. What else you got. wink

Speaking of vampires, I could think of a DOZEN or more better actresses to play Kristin Stewart's role in the Twilight movies. But, then again, that's not an "interesting" role .... wink

By and large, of classic movies, the original casting choices were more or less ideal - when they weren't, chances are the material wasn't so great after all. And how could one "cast" an actor in a movie that's not yet been made?

No, he can't lose the Irish accent. Close your eyes and it's Richard Harris, not Burton!

In that youtube picture place holder, it looks like Conan O'Brien in twenty years.

I remember hearing Mel Brooks talk about how the "Waco Kid" was initially supposed to be cast (gruff and middle-aged) before Gene Wilder won him over.

Shortly after this, I realized how bizarre and hysterical it would have been if George C. Scott wound up playing the role. Imagine him doing a deadpan version of the character. I doubt he ever would have done it, but it would have been great (not that Wilder wasn't).

"The little bastard shot me in the ass!"

Yes, away from Mallon's visual performance the voice does come off in the clip as though it could be Harris. I completely understand your point. And since both these guys had much in common off camera (especially the hard boozing and womanizing) it's not that difficult a stretch to imagine the house lights going down and visualizing that it's the "other" Richard spilling his guts up there on stage. Still, putting both halves of the performance together overall I think he did quite well in channeling Burton. I'm sure he's gotten a lot of feedback both pro and con on the voice.

Burton had that one of a kind distinctive deep booming voice that filled a large space, whereas Harris' voice had a gravelly, almost world weary tone to it. Very much like Mallon's own voice. And of course, there's the Irish accent, which also weaves its way in and out of some of Mallon's other performances.

I had an opportunity to casually chat with Brian Mallon for a few minutes at a local premiere of "Gods and Generals" back in 2003. Mallon was reprising his role from "Gettysburg" as Union Gen. Winfield Scott Hancock in the film. I spotted him alone in the lobby opening the doors and putting the stops down on them preparing for the audience to arrive to enter the theater. He was actually a bit surprised that I recognized him! He could not have been nicer.

Yes. That 7 or 8 year window in Shatner's career, "The Barbary Coast", Marcy Lafferty, Wish Bone salad dressing and Promise margarine commercial years have always been somewhat of a curiosity for me. Not to mention those early Star Trek Conventions with folks in bell bottoms and loud belt buckles wandering the halls sporting those ill fitting slip on rubber Spock ears. I think it would make for a great "indie" movie. You have a very good idea there. The various hairpieces, sideburns, fashions, and belt sizes throughout Shatner's early to mid 1970's period alone would be a hoot to see.

Shatner loves to muse on and on about being on his ass financially back then. But don't forget (and how could you with all these retro tv cable channels now) after NBC canned Star Trek he was making a ton of "guest" appearances all over the place on episodic television, movies, and game shows on all three networks in those days. He was certainly working and getting paid good money (at the time) for it. I'm sure he wasn't sitting on the tail gate of his truck eating cold Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meatballs out of the can every day. But it would not surprise me in the least if Shatner said that he did. Gotta love the Shat Man. wink

This is about as obscure as it gets. But I always thought David Henrie would be perfect as a live action version of Dirk The Daring from the video game "Dragons Lair".

Like the billboards said:

Val Kilmer

Is

MOSES

And he was, in a French euro-musical version of The Ten commandments.

Of course he was also Moses in the Dreamworks animated version of the story, but whoo-boy that story does not translate to singing and dancing (opera, maybe).

Ralph Fiennes as Rupert Rigsby in a film version of Rising Damp. I thought he'd be ace in the role after watching him in The Grand Budapest Hotel.
