Hi

Looking to get the most complete version of this score.

Cinevox has two releases that each have the same first 15 tracks, but they differ in the unreleased material. Going by soundtrackcollector's info:

The 1997 Cinevox release has a suite for track 16: Inferno (Outtakes Suite) (10:13) and makes the total running time 46:06.

The 2006 Cinevox release has 3 tracks (16,17,18) instead of a suite, but these tracks combined only run for 7 minutes. Total Running time 42:59.

What's strange is that the 2006 gold release claims to be complete.

Any advice on which version to get?

Have the Cinevox CD (1997 or so).
But to me the very best reissue is in the Castle Records 3 CD boxed set " Keith Emerson at the movies". Superb sound . The notes could be better but for the price is a bargain , plus you get all the scores.
Alex

Cool. Thanks for the suggestion, some nice material on that boxset!

See, this is why I love this board. I've had INFERNO on my Amazon wishlist for a long time, I was about to pull the trigger on it last night and thought, "I'll just do a quick sweep of FSM, make sure this is the version to get," then boom, I find this thread and the At the Movies boxset.

Now I've got seven scores for the same price.

The 1997 version: The 10 minute suite starts with an alternate version of "Cigarettes, Ices, Etc."- which runs slightly longer at 3:10, and sounds pretty much exactly like the album version. Followed by some of the missing material from the film, all presented together as one track.

The 2006 version omits the alternate version of "Cigarettes, Ices, Etc.", and splits the remaining music into 3 tracks.

It's actually the 1997 version that is titled "Complete", although this isn't really the case as there is still some material from the film missing which isn't on any release.

(As a side note, "Cigarettes, Ices, Etc." doesn't appear in the film, but was written for the end credits. It was swapped out for a repeat of Mater Tenebrarum. But the track did appear on the original album.)

I take it no version has that chanting music that you hear when we finally meet Mater Tenebrarum? Just before the finale music?

Last time I was at Amoeba they had it in stock, under ELP!

Sadly, correct.

Excellent score, I love this one! Elegant main theme, gonzo ELP-esque tunes, so cliched its awesome suspense-chase music, the choral scoring, one of the finest actiony horror scored scenes ever (the cat attack in the pond), like an insane mini piano concerto in this spot.

Endlessly rewarding.

Is this the only Argento movie with a big, Hollywood
orchestral finale (when the surviving dude exits the
burning home of Death)?
Good main title theme, and I love “Mater Tenebrarum” in
all its’ loud, out-of-left-field glory.

I don't remember the finale being this way in particular but La Terza Madre has a decent orchestral Simonertit score. I think that's the closest?

Possibly Pino Donaggio’s Trauma and Do you like Hitchcock also offer a bit of this at the end as well but not quite the level of the shattering climax of Inferno

There's also a massive Keith Emerson Box Set that came out recently called Variations that has his whole catalogue of releases, including the super rare IRON MAN Vol.1 with music he did for the cartoon. But it retails for $200+
