He's writing as much as ever. I agree, I wish Hollywood and big budgets and directors with taste were the standard of the day. But all we get is the 17th Superhero movie, the 84th Marvel movie, and the 17th Pirates of the Carribean movie with almost all interchangeable deafening Zimmer pounding. Williams, Silvestri, Elfman, Giacchino, and Desplat are still flying the flag for symphonic film scoring...but man, for my two cents Goldenthal is the best, most intense and accomplished orchestral composer alive. He's a monster.
