Does anyone know if the AIP versions of "Baron Blood" and "Black Sunday," with the Les Baxter scores, are on DVD or Blu-Ray yet? Last time I looked only the Italian versions were available. I have the AIP versions on VHS, but would love to upgrade.

The two films were on laserdisc with the Baxter scores (along with the Baxter score to Black Sabbath). To my knowledge they've never been released on DVD in the AIP versions. And there are no blu-ray releases of Bava yet, at least that I know about.

Thanks.

I'm looking forward to buying your upcoming Les Baxter exotica score.

Then maybe you can get to work on that Capitol exotica box that I suggested. wink

The DVD version of "Black Sunday" that was intially on Image Entertainment is Bava's Italian "Mask Of The Devil" print, which has an English-dubbed language track along with the original Roberto Nicolosi score.
Image's DVD on "Black Sabbath" is entirely Italian (with English subtitles), complete with the Nicolosi score and Mario Bava's original sequence of stories (Karloff's vampire tale in the middle, with "A Drop Of Water" as the finale, and cinematic joke as a coda).

If you are a fan of Mario Bava, I recommend these Italian versions as the ones to have (I also love Bava's "Lisa And The Devil", which you may too if you like Elke Sommer!) since they feature bonus audio commentary tracks by Tim Lucas.

Cannot help you, though, if you're wanting the AIP cut and re-scored versions of "Baron Blood" and "Black Sunday"...

I have the Italian versions also, thanks.

I specifically want the AIP/Baxter versions.

Bumping my old thread in observation of Halloween.

Would really love to have clean AIP versions of Black Sunday and Baron Blood.

Any word?

It is highly unlikely that the AIP versions will officially surface here in the US at this point. In England, Arrow has released (region B locked) blu rays that have both versions, and they happen to be DVD combo sets as well.

Yes, the Arrow Combos from the UK are highly recommended. So far Black Sunday, Baron Blood and Black Sabbath (with the Baxter score and the voice of Boris Karloff) are out. I hope Evil Eye (the US version of The Girl Who Knew Too Much) isn't too far behind...

Awesome. I have an all-regions player, and will need to get these. Thanks!
