Well, this one could be right down my alley. I know that many people won't care for Doyle doing another historical/fantasy epic, but seeing as I love Goblet of Fire, Eragon and Last Legion, I'm hoping to be in for another treat.

Thor would rather be scored by John Williams, Elliot Goldenthal, Danny Elfman, or, if at all possible, Clint Eastwood.

Based on the previous collaborations between director and composer, I have great anticipation for "Thor". But I do get a sense of 'sameness' about certain aspects of Doyle's epic scores (particularly the ones you've mentioned, CK).

This is probably my most anticipated score of 2011, thus far. I'll probably be equally, if not more, excited about the Deathly Hallows score, depending on who the composer is. razz JNH's scores for the green superheroes are pretty high on the list too, as well as a few of Zimmer's scores (especially, the Kung Fu Panda sequel).

Patrick Doyles style is perfect for this film! Should be awesome. But I do agree he needs to expand his musical pallet a bit.

Any news regarding this, my most looked-forward-to score of 2011?

WTF?!?

Walt Disney Records is releasing the soundtrack to THOR on May 3rd?

So they won't do their own films, but they'll release something from another studio???

But that makes the situation even weirder. The Marvel deal was done after their so called stance on digital downloads came out, so one would think this would fall into that category. So y'a never know what to expect now days in terms of physical CD releases from them.

I've asked before but don't think I've ever gotten an answer: does Disney actually have a "stance" on digital downloads? Or did they just release a couple scores download only, and the fans assumed that OMG Disney's not releasing CDs anymore, and now it's just "known" that Disney Does Digital without any sort of actual announcement of an ongoing distribution plan?

I'm still disappointed this this has not been advertised as William Shakespeare's Thor!

I agree. I dont think they really have a stance either. Its just whatever they feel like at the moment. Only Toy Story 3 and Sorcerers Apprentice didnt get a CD release last year out of all their films.

Well according to "Ben Burtt's" Facebook fan page (which I presume isn't run by Ben Burtt) a CD release is planned for Cars 2, but obviously this can only really be marked as a rumour for now. But it so, it makes Disney's "policy" (if such a thing even exists) even more baffling. Yes, Cars 2 will contain two songs (if this is correct), so maybe that's why there will be a physical release, but Toy Story 3 had two songs too and they got released on a seperate CD with other Toy Story Songs rather than the score album getting released. Or maybe that is what will happen here? Oh, I don't know! I just still find it frustrating that Up and Toy Story 3 didn't get CD releases, especially as a Giacchino collector since the Medal Of Honor scores and a Randy Newman fan who has everything released commercially on CD (except Pleasantville, I'll get around to it soon!), both his scores and his song albums.

Still, I'm certainly not complaining about Thor getting a CD release! I'll take them when I can!

PLEASANTVILLE is a beautiful score, one of the few by Randy Newman that I actually want to keep.

Just finished watching THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, and I found most of the music unmemorable.

Sometimes, Newman can be sublime, but, most of the time, he just churns out pop tunes, long on rhythm and short on melody.

Thor's theme no doubt.

Haha. It's the 'Patrick' Power Anthem.

Doyle certainly wasn't kidding in his interview. Although, it's definitely better than many similar stylistic themes to come directly from Remote Control.

I would rather have that theme, than no themes at all. Just like I would rather have a modern synth/orchestral RCP approach with a Zimmer crafted identifiable theme, than have a traditional Doyle approach with plenty of old school bombast, yet entirely devoid of any themes, through fear of the music calling too much attention to itself by being overwrote and too big for the film it's supposed to be serving, ultimately facing inevitable rejection in the process. Themes/motifs etc in an orchestral based score such as this have always come first for me before anything else.

Sometimes, you simply have to place your wishes aside, and accept that this is how things are done today in modern Hollywood. Be grateful that you didn't get much worse than what is on offer.

If it is Doyle's music (and that is highly suspect), it's unlike anything I've heard from him. Sounds good, in any case.

The music is definitely Doyle, I hear flavors of DEAD AGAIN, HAMLET and other past scores in it, which excites me no end.

It's just weird to hear him writing with such deep instruments, high strings are such an iconic part of his style. But if losing them was the price we/he had to pay for a score that wouldn't be rejected, as he makes clear in the video interview, it was worth it.

Love the theme, can't wait for the album. Hope it's a full 80 mins (with apologies to our own THOR, who doubtless would prefer a 40 min versionsmile
