I think the score is great in the movie, but not very listenable alone, so I actually sold my ol' RCA release a few months ago. So if I didn't even like that release, I'll let you extrapolate from that what I think about an expanded release.

I hope they never expand ALIEN 3, whose legacy as musical album is better if left untouched (that goes for all of them, of course, but ESPECIALLY this one, since Goldenthal's music is very concert-like and only works in a presentation based on concert music rules).

I am agree and am not agree with Thor.
Alien 4 is a great score but... the RCA album was very bad edited (so yes, you can skip it). The most important is that the complete score is for once very much listenable! So thanks Lalaland for this!!

I think there's maybe one cue I'd love to have, but otherwise, I'm really satisfied with the Alien 3 album. I'd welcome a rerelease with better sound, though.

Alien Resurrection has a number of really lush cues that aren't on the original album, which will make this a probable buy for me.

Sorry Thor, but Alien 3 NEEDS an expansion. Some nice cues are missing from the album. Also, some of my favorite parts are not the 'film versions' on the album. What I'm trying to say is, it sounds as if instruments are missing. For instance, take the scene in which Ripley pours molten lead on the Alien. The slow motion shot where she swings on the chains to the platform - the music has such an epic quality to it and it's practically castrated on the MCA release. I would love to see it remastered as well, however I'm told the condition of the masters are in such poor quality it can't be released. Oddly enough, some cues that were unreleased, but in releasable quality are apparently too expensive too license.

If someone has a good source of a complete Alien 3, come forward now!

An A3 expansion would be great if for no other reason to complete the set and close the book on this quad.

I think it will be on sale later tonight (UK time 9pm?)

Have no fear.

I think that Alien 3 and Alien 4, and let me add AVP 1 and AVP 2, are NOT easy listening at all.
They are anything but shallow scores, but require strong concentration and some mood to enjoy the listening.

If expanded LLL Alien 4 can help understand the electronic-orchestral language of FRizzell is absolutely welcome (and count me in for order!).
BUT the same applies even more to a Alien 3.

A friend I know sent me the "They Swim..." track for me to listen to before this release was announced. I quite enjoyed it!

I hope this sticks around for a couple of weeks, at least, as I won't be able to pick up any more CDs until the 15th, give or take a few days.

I was actually more intrigued by the Halloween sale, but I already own all of the titles discounted at $2 apiece... oh well. Maybe I'll get Panic in Year Zero, since that's on sale for ten dollars.

I'm very excited for that isolated score as well... however, I suspect the music will have volume fluctuations where the music is lowered for dialogue bits. My reasoning is, if the isolated score sounded perfect, La La Land would have worked with that. Still, even if the score has those volume fluctuations in it - it's better than nothing. While I would prefer a pressing of the score, I'll take whatever I can get. smile

This one is pretty much a must have for me.

I've been listening to the score while driving (the OST), and I believe this one is often overlooked, because of the legend and mastery of the other scores and films.

Alien Resurrection the film may not be great as a movie, but the score stands up very well.

It's a very good score, even if it doesn't meet the fantastic heights of the first 3.

Bar none - Alien Resurrection is one of the most ballsy and most propulsive action scores from the 1990s. We're talking speaker-melters, people.

But would you agree that Alien 3 sounds terrible and is in need of a modern remastering?

Actually, no, I think it sounds fine.

"Alien 3" is one of my first soundtrack albums I bought and I remember going to a record store and couldn't believe what I heard when they told me it was available! I eagerly awaited its arrival and once I got it, it was a great experience. But, I did feel there were parts missing or cues left off that definitely had a lot of merit. I don't like how the alien's demise cue just fades out instead of goes to a brassy climax. I don't like that none of the Bishop team arrival cues are on it and there is also a particularly good cue for when they are building the trap. So I'm all for expansion, but let's hope those isolated tracks on the new blu-ray set will be satisfactory.

Regarding Resurrection, I might pick this up later. Never was a big fan of the score nor the movie, and the TNG boxset is enough space music for this month.

Does anyone know how long before this thing goes up for ordering at Intrada and similar sites?
