With The Artist winning Best Score at the Oscars, I thought I could get help with the composer's name. Watching the Oscars might not have been any help, because they seem to butcher the composer's name at times!
Is Ludovic Bource pronounced 'Lud-o-vic Borse' in English? I say his last name like it rhymes with 'horse'.
...and here`s a question from a Swede to all of you Americans: How do you pronounce Johan Söderqvist`s name?
Since we here in Sweden does have a few more letters than you guys have (yes we do have and they are Åå, Ää & Öö).
So let the speculations begin:
Oh, who knows... I'll take a stab at it, but then please tell us because I have been curious to know for a while. It's not Yo-honn Soe-der-quist, is it? Probably not.
Here's what I've thought so far, but it could very well be wrong: I always thought Jarre was "jar", but I heard someone else say "jzar-AY" Moross, I think, is "more-OSE"
Tend to agree with Handstand re Jarre. Have never heard it pronounced 'jzar-ay' , and there is no accent over the 'e'.
Lionel Newman used to make a joke of Frontiere's last name, pronouncing it "Front Tire"!

Söderqvist is difficult to transcribe: The "ö" is almost like the "u" in "hurt", but less 'twisted'. You speak it with pointed lips (weird analogy, I know). So: YOO-haan SOE-dehr-kveest (the last syllable being short), with "YOO" being half-way between "you" and "yo".

I'm not familiar with that composer, but being a hockey fan, I've had to learn how to pronounce quite a few Swedish names (first and last) that I'd probably never be able to pronounce otherwise. LOL!!
As for Jarre, I thought it was like "yar-ay." I think the one time I ever heard it spoken that's how it sounded, so that's how I've always pronounced it, but perhaps the person I heard was wrong.
I verified with the IPA...Kojian is Armenian, so the stresses should go on the last syllables of both first and last names. Sorry, I'm nearly-perfectionist with these things. I've edited my reply to you accordingly.
Has Ennio Morricone been clarified? I've heard the first name is IN-ee-oh. The last name I've always pronounced More-ih-koe-nee, like it's spelled, but I probably say it wrong.

Not exactly. Both his first and last name contain a double consonant. In Italian phonetics the double consonant have actually twice the length of single consonant (they have practically a stronger sound).
So it sounds like E/nn/ee-o Mo/rr/ee-coo-ne

No single "o" in the Italian language is sounded as "oo"
It's "oh" -- Or EN/yo MOR/ee/COE/nee. Don't worry about the "i" in Ennio...Italians normally sound out the "nio" as "nyo" rather than as "ee/oh".
