I....shamefully.....agree.....

I avoided this way back when, because....I mean who would buy
a score album from the POWER RANGERS????

This is when we old ye olde Tower Records, and no way would
I be caught taking this to the register for purchase.

Sadly, enough, I heard it last year and picked up a copy from SAE
for 5 bucks and it's a really great score, tight album, good throwback
to the old 80's fantasy stuff we all love.

Joe Bob says check it out fer sure!

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The piece from 1:00-1:30 is the theme for Nicole Kidman's character in BANGKOK HILTON, one of Revell's first scores and one of my absolute favorite films. He reused it. I never knew.

I'd give anything for a BANGKOK HILTON score CD, but I'm sure it'll never happen as there seems to be no Revell love and it's an obscure Australian TV film that has never even made it to DVD in America, despite starring Kidman, Hugo Weaving and Denholm Elliott, and despite being remade as the apparently dreadful BROKEDOWN PALACE.

Must buy CD!

wish he had more chances to write more like this. poor guy is stuck with bland and generic movies to score. "Powers Rangers" was bland and generic, but at least he got a chance to flex his muscles.

There is no shame is listening to Graeme Revell's POWER RANGERS. It is great. STREETFIGHTER is pretty good too. When he gets to write for a full orchestra, he can be pretty good.

I ABSOLUTELY agree. I LOVE this score!

My favorite cue is
track 9 - Summoning The Ninjetti

I hope one day for the complete score

With the always good Goldsmith approach of 'score what it should be, not what it is'.

It's a great score. I wish Varese would do a remastered album or have a complete re-recording done with a bigger orchestra.

And like all great movies, it enhances the movie tenfold in all its cheesy 1990s goodness.

You could argue, who would buy a score album from THE TWILIGHT SAGA too?

Or Thomas (the tank engine) and the Magic Railroad?

Hey, thanks for posting, Kevin -- I had somehow missed this one, but after listening to the excerpts, I've put in my order from SAE.

I think we should ask FSM to look into a complete score of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie. It should include both Graeme Revell's work but also the small bits crossed over from the TV series and the Power Rangers Orchestra like Lord Zed's theme that is played during the scene when they open the egg and release Ivan Ooze. Also I like the music during the 1st Morph fight scene in the building site which was on neither CD.

I think a new release would be commercially viable as a limited edition. I think both fans of Mighty Morphin would buy it as well as general soundtrack lovers, as it is a great score.

You know a lot about Power Rangers music... Care to share?

Granted when ABC was re-airing the show I watched it religiously on DVR to check out that fine assed ranger Kimberly.

I don't know if SAE can do an expanded release -- maybe Intrada or LLL does since they've done Fox soundtrack (re)releases?

If I had the money, I'd get Tadlow Music and Revell to supervise an high-quality re-recording, at least for the OST album. The electric guitars and drum kits were done better in the show IMO.

I'm late to the party, as usual. I have zero interest in the film, but I just purchased the score and it really is a knockout. Revell really hit this one out of the park.

If you are a fan of big orchestral scores with real themes in the fantasy-adventure-super hero genre(s), seek this one out!

I've been a lurker for a few months, always enjoying the latest soundtrack news, but when I saw this thread get bumped back to the first page, I figured it was a good time to register!

I absolutely love the score for MMPR's movie. Saw it back in theaters when I was five, and then revisited it a few years ago when I was on a nostalgia kick. I never realized how great the music really was. It's heroic, thematic, and just overall a lovely soundtrack! To make my track listing in iTunes complete, I tacked on the rock version of "Go Go Power Rangers" from the album soundtrack ;-)
