Since April 2009 I've been having quite a bit of work done on my teeth. I wore Invisalign braces for 16 months. One cavity filled. Two root canals. Yesterday he extracted all three of my wisdom teeth (the fourth never came in). Even after the numbing drug wore off, I've experienced no pain at all. Only a mild throbbing sensation on two of the three affected areas. If I put the teeth under my pillow, I wonder if I'll find a soundtrack there in the morning! Find an experienced dentist and you should have few problems. You get what you pay for I guess.

Congrats, Adam B. Here's to hoping it stays painless. And kudos on finding a great dentist.

I finally had to have all four of my wisdom teeth (plus a molar) removed in October 2009. I drove almost two hours in order to visit the same oral surgeon I'd seen in 1991 in order to get two teeth removed before I could have braces. He's been doing it for 20+ years now and is just fantastic. He's terrific at making you feel at ease, and the surgery is over before you know, especially if (like me) you opt for the IV sedation. big grin The day of the surgery was the worst. After that, it was only mild discomfort and no real pain. I never even had to use the Vicodin prescription he gave me.

As for dentists, between about 2001 and 2006 I bounced around to a few different ones because I just wasn't satisfied with any of them. In 2009 I found a new one literally just a few blocks away, and he's terrific. I go to him exclusively.

Three wisdom teeth must be worth at least a 2-CD.

I think how easy wisdom teeth removal goes depends a lot on the position of the wisdom teeth. Mine were virtually standing horizontally against the other teeth (like this: | _ ), so three of my wisdom teeth could only come out in 5-6 pieces each (nice sounds...). Only the fourth one, the only one which had actually been visible on the surface, could actually be pulled out and remained in one piece.

Much less fun, to be honest. big grin

I dutht webt to duh dedtist. By bouf ith dubb.

Oh there, I've turned on the Numbed Mouth Translator. That's better.

Yeah, the dentist this morning said he couldn't tell why I was having pain, maybe a crack. He sent me to the endodontist this afternoon, who took out the filling and found the crack. The tooth is toast. Next stop is oral surgeon to "inhume" the little guy.

But all in all, I had no difficulty with how they did their work. I have no insurance yet, so I'm glad it didn't cost me nearly as much as I thought (so far, anyway).

Yes, Adam, finding good dentists is the way to go.

I believe I single-handedly financed my dentist's new car. wink

Got the tooth out last week. The actual "reaching in and yanking out" took about 2 minutes with zero pain. (As opposed to when he inserted the hypodermic needle. THAT hurt.)

Now it feels like I have a hole in the side of my face. I'm sure going to be glad when I can chew like a human being again.

(I'll be getting a bridge, since it's the least costly option. I hope I can wait until I finally get insurance next year.)
