The score is great but it's really just the one theme and probably not enough for a whole CD.

Good to know. This is by far my least favorite of Legrand's famous themes, so if it's the main part of the score, I will avoid if it ever comes out.

You might also enjoy Legrand's "Lady Sings the Blues" score, which has a similar main theme.

(I have a feeling the producers must have said, "Could you give us something along the lines of 'Brian's Song'?")

I don't think they're the same. Here's the Love Theme From Lady Sings The Blues:

Here's Michel Legrand's version of BRIAN'S SONG:

Wow! Although if I were to take a trip back to when "Lady Sings The Blues" was released, I may have noticed the similarity of his instrumental theme to his "Brian's Song," but had obviously forgotten! Frankly it's the same melody! Just listen to each of the tunes above! But I'll take Legrand's later recordings of "Brian's Song" on his "The Music of Michel Legrand" (2:53) and "The Essential Michel Legrand Film Music Collection" (3:18), both far more polished than the above (but maybe not as interesting!).

Wanted to bump this.

I think it's really about time for an Awesome CD Release of this wonderful Legrand Gem of a TV Movie Score.

Who would gobble it up? (pre-Thanksgiving Joke) wink

Has anyone ever determined if the Master Tapes exist?

Listening to the Mancini take. Here go the waterworks again. Dang.

zooba,

I would definitely gobble this one up. I think I may have written somewhere here before how much I love this movie and this score. What few snippets I have been able to get on iTunes and YouTube are not even close to being enough. I want more. James Caan and Billy Dee Williams were wonderful in this movie. Ironically Billy Dee Williams was in Lady Sings the Blues which Legrand scored along with Gil Askey and was released a year later. Love both these movies and scores.

Thanks for resurrecting this thread zooba.
