Theodore Shapiro is currently mixing his score for upcoming Steve Martin/Jack Black comedy THE BIG YEAR, which should open in October and is about to record his latest score for ARTHUR - remake starring Helen Mirren, Jennifer Garner and Russell Brand. The film is opening in April, when anyone in Dallas or near that area will have the first ever chance to visit a Theodore Shapiro live concert within Dallas Symphony's Masters film music series. More details regarding the program of the concert, which will also include a premiere of a piece composed especially for DSO, will be following soon.
As reported by various parties, Theodore Shapiro is no longer involved with The Change-Up, which went to John Debney. Anyway, Arthur soundtrack has been released recently as Amazon CD-R on demand and Sony is releasing the pressed CD in EU. Unfortunately it includes only a single Theodore Shapiro's cue, which is just marvelous:
Not a fan of that track for some reason. It may be because it's attached to this film that I LOATHE. I'm very sad they remade this. Dudley, I'm sure is rolling over in his grave.
I just listened to a sample of the soundtrack of the Bacharach song, Best That You Can Do and I almost spit up. They completely RUINED it. Ahh I need to breathe, it will be okay DMD.
Mysteries of Pittsburg is an amazing score and probably my favorite Shapiro score. If I would ever get to actually releasing something, this would be one the first scores on my "to do" list. If it was manageable as an L.A.-recorded score. There is more samples available through the discography.
