To my knowledge THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES has never gotten an "official" release. I feel that this year would be very appropriate for 2 reasons: it's the 35th anniversary of the film, and it would be a great tie-in to the new blu-ray release. what do you think??

i was watching the film GLORY today with the music was scored by JAMES HORNER and when i heard some of the score i am sure that some of the music i had heard before and it was in THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES i don't know if anybody else had notice this....?

THE OUTLAW OF JOSEY WALES did get an official release on LP in 1976.
It's one of the better Western scores by Jerry Fielding, I agree, but great music is welcomed during anytime of the year, not only when an anniversary in a multiple of 5 happens to occur, or a newer incarnation of the film appears on the most current of media formats. A CD album of this score by Fielding would be much anticipated by many, but I can wait since I have SAE's promo disc of this, as well as the original vinyl...

Yeah there is a period march that both films used. I find myself in the really odd position of defending Jimmy H. but in this case they both lifted the tune. Can't remember the exact name of the March.

This was the first question I asked when I joined this board. I did eventually find the name of the Civil War march that was used by both Jerry and Jimmy but can't recall it now.
I know it's all about complete scores here (every last note), but a two-fer CD of the albums, The Wild Bunch & The Outlaw Josey Wales would be a great listen, & they were both on the Warner label.

If we are talking about the same song, Fielding told me the name of it was Rose of Alabama. He said he used it because the kid (Sam Bottoms) sang it at some point. He liked it and used it.
One of my wishes for the last 6 FSM's would be this score. It would be a thing of beauty, I imagine, rather like my Jeremiah Johnson CD. They would do the whole thing proud, I'm sure. But I reckon it must be caught up in Malpaso Hell and impossible to get out there
If there was an LP release, doesn't that mean the reuse fees were paid? So what's the holdup? Why hasn't Intrada (or one of the others) released this already?

I don't think reuse is a problem these days. I'd think someone could license out the album from Warner (I could be wrong), but for the whole score they'd have to deal with Eastwood's production company, Malpaso, I don't know if there's a problem there.
