Here's a little Bernstein score I'd love to have. This was his second collaboration with director Lewis John Carlino, the first being THE GREAT SANTINI - another score that needs to be unearthed.

Those of you with sensitive ears may notice Bernstein recycled part of this cue for FAR FROM HEAVEN...

Yes it's too bad no official soundtrack was ever released of this fun little film. (Anything with the gorgeous Jaqueline Bisset is fine by me! Did she ever look better?) There isn't really much score in this comedy but there's certainly a great cue that plays in the beginning of the Chicago scenes, along with some minor incidental stuff that would be nice to have.

It's nothing earth shattering, but a pleasant little score just the same. The main theme is quite nice.

It's definitely a short score - half an hour at the most. It would have to be paired with something else on CD, like Kritzerland did for FEAR STRIKES OUT / THE TIN STAR. Perhaps THE GREAT SANTINI, which is also a relatively short score.

The year Bernstein scored this film is an odd one in his filmography. CLASS, TRADING PLACES, SPACEHUNTER, and the Michael Jackson video THRILLER. Talk about a diverse resume...

Unfortunately, although both "Class" (1983) and "The Great Santini" (1980) were originally distributed by Orion Pictures, I believe that there is a split in the current ownership of Orion films, with those through 1981 belonging to Warner Bros. and those after 1981 belonging to the current MGM. That's certainly the case with the DVDs, with "Class" issued by MGM and "The Great Santini" being issued by Warners. I don't think that Bernstein has another (new) MGM score that hasn't already seen a release. "Three Amigos" (1986) was an Orion film, but it's already had a CD release of the original LP. "Nightmare Honeymoon" (1977) was MGM, but that's old MGM, and is now with Warners.

I like the CLASS score. Be great to have it on CD.

THE CHOSEN is another great "short" as of yet, unreleased Elmer Bernstein score.

Very beautiful music by the Maestro:

I started a thread on this score four years ago but it had hardly raised any interest here back then:

I hear "We Got One!" From Ghostbusters in there. Hadn't heard the score from "Class" before and it's just as well because I want it now. LOL That looks like a job for Kritzerland! :-)

I just watched this film last night. First time in many years and the score is absolutely brilliant. I would love to see this on CD in the not too distant future.

There's a little more than thirty minutes total. I believe Tom Scott added some additional music to the film as well so an album is very theseable along as the tapes have survived. I would love to see this released sometime in the future. Looks like a job for Varese, Kritzerland or Quartet Records.

I'm not hearing or seeing anything here. Just a scroll on the right, that does nothing.

Thanks Sig.

That's the best recording of that CLASS theme I've heard. Great sound.
