I don't know what's happening to pretty soundtrack covers, but I'm finding myself making more and more myself.

Here are some of my best:

Although the best designs I have seen are easily by Luis M. Rojas. Record labels take note of his incredible work: http://soundtracklist.net/

Does anyone else enjoy making their own?

Wonderful work, Antzstuff. One of the really nice things about your work is that it's on a project-by-project basis, unlike some of the labels whose covers always tend to look like they're from the same art house - not that this is a bad thing per se but I think sometimes the medium isn't as much the message as it could be. These examples you've shared with us are kick-ass!

Great artwork there Antzstuff. A lot of recent releases seem to have poor, rushed artwork, especially digital only releases. The custom art available online is often miles better. Luis M. Rojas is my favourite custom artist by far. Someone needs to give him a job at one of the record labels.

L.M.Rojas has done some official covers for Howling Records and Perseverance:

Wow. Makes you wonder how one specific soundtrack label can release such horrible covers while somebody who does it for hobby can produce great works like these

Little college project I did in my Color Theory class over at Savannah College of Art and Design. Since Star Trek II was my #1 favorite score I wanted to see released. Since one of the art assignments was to design your own CD, I didn't hesitate to a second in what I wanted to depict. So faster than anything, I fired up Photoshop (never used it that much before) and came up with this in two days time.

I actually remember watching the film and noting every piece of music that was not on the original album. One of my fondest memories was naming the tracks themselves. Oh, and you better believe that this release excludes Leonard Nimoy's "Space... the final frontier" voice over!

Basically, I NAILED this project. Not only did I have my wording down to sheer memory, but I also just talked and talked about how much I wanted the look of this cover art to showcase how warm and red this film was.

Quality work, Antzstuff. Do you have a higher-resolution version of the "Gun" cover, perchance?

I must also concur with the praise for Mr. Rojas's work. His site is the first place I look for custom covers, and his work is consistently excellent.

Unfortunately I do not have a larger copy of Gun, however I'm ensuring any new covers I make are in much higher resolution.

Thanks guys for such nice comments! I'm very glad you enjoy my work as I enjoy creating.
I always feel that cd art is an interesting topic because I think is a very important part ot the soundtrack, of course nothing more important than the music but is the cherry of the dessert. I enjoy very much the work of other designers and believe me sometimes is very difficult to catch the right things because is not only to have a good poster, sometimes one must think on good backgrounds or textures, pick the right fonts, choose stills that fit all the inserts, how to fit the liner notes and extra info, etc. etc., but still is an incredible experience and I always try to give my best efforts.
I'm currently working in a couple projects for Howlin' Wolf Records that will be releasing very soon, hope you enjoy them smile

Luis

I do. Here are the two I've done so far (though I'll need to make at least one more):

I don't have a larger copy of Peacemaker on my laptop and I only had a bad jpg movie poster for the Village. They're both for the DVD rips I've done.

Antzstuff, WHERE can one find high-quality images from which to maker high-quality covers? It's so hard for me to find anything. If I go and print out my Village art, it will look horrid because the original image is a jpg.
