FIRST BLOOD is among my favorite film scores, one of Goldsmith's all time great action scores with a great main theme. The lyrics of the song are unable to ruin that melody in my opinion; it's simply too good. :-)
I prefer to listen to "It's a Long Road" in its instrumental form rather than its song form, but that's not to say the song version is bad. It's not my favourite song, no, but it's works just fine both on the movie and on the album. The composition itself is great.
