The BBC confirmed today that following the death of Elisabeth Sladen there are no plans to film further episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Elisabeth Sladen first played the role of Sarah Jane in Doctor Who in 1973 and following her return to the show in 2006, played the eponymous lead in the award-winning CBBC series, The Sarah Jane Adventures, from 2007 onwards.

The full statement regarding the future of the series is below:

"Contrary to press reports today we can confirm that no new episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures will be filmed following the tragic death of actress Elisabeth Sladen in April, 2011. As a tribute to Elisabeth the six episodes that were recorded with her last year will be broadcast on CBBC at a date to be confirmed."

The final series of The Sarah Jane Adventures starring the late Elisabeth Sladen is expected to be shown during what has now become its 'traditional' month of October on CBBC and BBC1(HD), reports Doctor Who Magazine.

The titles of the three, two-part stories that make up the fifth series are Sky by Phil Ford, The Curse of Clyde Langer also by Phil Ford, and The Man Who Wasn't There by Gareth Roberts.

The series features the regular team of Daniel Anthony as Clyde and Anjli Mohindra as Rani, with Tommy Knight returning properly as Luke for the final story. Other guest stars announced for this series include Peter Bowles, Christine Stephen-Daly and James Dreyfus. It was produced as part of the same recording schedule as series four by Brian Minchin.

It doesn't seem a year has already passed.

I was thinking this while watching the Sladen featurette on "Dinosaurs." It's also been a year since The Brig, Nicholas Courtney, died. The commentary track mentions that his funeral had just been the day before.

Speaking of Elisabeth, I'm truly enjoying her earlier take on Sarah Jane in the Pertwee era, later dropped during her time with Baker, yet resumed in K-9 and Company.

1st February would have been Elisabeth Sladen's 69th birthday. For me, she was the best companion. She will forever be in our hearts.
