Boy, do I hope for a Rockford Files box set. There is a lot of absolutely fantastic music in the show. And it`s really a unique orchestra: bluesy harmonica, bluegrass dobro, funky 70s electric guitar and more. And then this wonderful and catchy Mike Post theme. What`s really great about the scores is the fact that many of the longer cues play without dialogue when James Garner was driving around. So it wasn`t scored as subdued underscoring but was really present. Now only one of the labels has to be as excited about the music as I am https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXsCNtWJKLE

The FSM Board: a hotbed of Rockford Files-Mike Post enthusiasm. Co-composer Pete Carpenter had a lot to do with the quality of the music on this show. Another unsung hero.

The FSM Board: a hotbed of Rockford Files-Mike Post enthusiasm. What a surprise. This is a board that deals with film and TV music. But you are right, it`s really weird that the music of one of the most active and succesful composers in the history of american television gets mentioned on a film and TV music board every once in awhile.

It's been so long that I can't comment on the scores for the series. I did, however, last year year watch all the TV movies. Tehre was some nice scoring here and there. But unfortunately only one of the TV movies was good, another okay, and the rest just not any good. Further more, nothing is tied up or at least left someplace where we could say good-bye. Hell, Angel's last appearance ever -- hiding under Rockford's deck, having stole his mail, and Jim spraying the waterhose under there. I did note, however, even though Peter Carpenter had passed away, his was still credited with all the TV movie scores with Post. I suspect Post had something to do with that.

Is The Rockford Files the only tv show where the harmonica is often the lead instrument? JimP, I think you've got your answer right there as to why there's so little enthusiasm around these parts for this score. Thanks for the topic though, you lot. Inspired me this weekend to watch a few first season episodes (probably rewatch, as I was there from the beginning, but not any shows I remembered). Nice break from all the Star Wars hoopla
