FLESH & BLOOD benefited immensely from Intrada's remastering. LLL did the same for KRULL. Kritzerland has done a terrific job with GORKY PARK and UNTIL SEPTEMBER.

So... how about DUNE?

The PEG CD is ten years old. It's a good representation of the score, but with modern technology I'd bet it could sound even better.

Does it merit producing 3000 copies? Probably not, but I bet 2000 would sell out within a couple of days.

Anyone else out there interested in having DUNE dusted off?

I think there are legal issues. I remember Ford saying on the 2001 PEG, "it was this or nothing".

Funny thing - I was just talking about this score the other day. Then I had to just put it in my CD player. I have a lot of affection for the movie, even if it isn't for everyone and the score is great fun. I'd definitely pick-up a remaster of this one.

What exactly were the sound problems on the PEG release(s) ?

I really don't think you could make this score sound any better.

If you compare it to the original Polydor CD, this was really quite an improvement.

Of course, an important reason to do this again would be to include the Brian Eno track with the PEG program.

IIRC, the sound problems (whatever they were) were fixed in the 2001 issue, even though that disc was otherwise exactly the same (down to copyright and year notices, for legal reasons) as the 1996 (?) issue.

What sound problems did the PEG DUNE have again? I've heard about them, but never noticed.

Some of the tracks have a bit of slurry pitch-bendy effect, like the speed's changing slightly. I'm sure there's a technical term for it.

I remember there was some talk about some missing music on the PEG release, I think the sequence when the Harkonnens attack the Atreides on Dune.

Ah! I think memory now recalls something like that. I guess it isn't as big a deal to me as the missing music. In 1997, a 70min album was a miracle and satisfactory at the time. As time has passed and more reviewing of the film, I noticed about 30 additional minutes of score on top of the Film Version of the End Titles with the beautiful string overlay that's missing from the Album. Maybe a 2CD remaster will surface one day.

I'd also like to see a remaster of Howard Blake's Flash Gordon score coupled with the Queen music sans SFX and dialogue.

Yeah "mag wow" is present in different parts of both PEG releases.

Dune's one of my favorite scores, I'd be very eager for a newly mastered release, especially with more music. There's some good electronic bits missing like the intro for Feyd and Rabban, the guitar overlays on the film version the 1st worm riding sequence. And yes, the film mixes of the Main and End Title are missed.

I also remember when the PEG release came out...I'm still amazed it happened when it did. Of course we're all spoiled by expanded releases to obscure or unloved films all the time now!

One of my FAVORITE film scores. Would buy any version of a new release that had anything whatsoever new to offer, new tracks, remastering, new liner notes, different cover art... huge fan of the score.

Exactly! And what was the deal w/ the PEG album replacing the ACTUAL "Sandworm Attack" cue with an unrelated cue and calling it "Sandworm Attack"? confused

I think that's just the main title music w/o choir

It is the actual cue?

......

No, I pointed out that the PEG album replaces it w/ an unrelated cue.

There are a few cues that one hears in the film that aren't on the PEG release, and a few on the PEG release that don't appear in the film. The mixing is often completely different. I'm not suggesting one is better than the other (although I'd like to hear the film mix of the end title without that horrid edit right in the middle of it), but a comprehensive set would be pretty long.
