Thanks, Ron!

Had a great day with friends in the garden, and I'm quite tipsy as I write this.

You norwegians are great with celebrating your big day. At least in comparison to us Swedes, we could learn at lot from our friends in the west.

Yeah, but you have Midtsommarnatt(?), which is even fancier than our St. Hansaften.

Gratulerer med dagen, fellow Norwegians!

I was supposed to host a garden party later today, just as last year, but the weather forecast is grim so I had to cancel. Which is strange, because right now it's sunny and fine.

Oh well. I'll find a substitute solution.

FB, Nils, Bjarte, myhrik, Jostein, Bent and other Norwegian FSMers I might have forgotten - what are your plans for the day?

Gratulerer, Thor and others!

I was up before 8 this morning, biking down to the city centre, where the procession took place. I was going in the procession together with the school where I work. Our school is 20 years old this year, so we were leading the procession (almost).

The rest of the day I will just take it VERY easy.

The opposite of me, then. I got up at 11, went downtown after the parades had finished, and then drank a lot of beer with some buddies of mine (against doctor's orders!) and partied with some girls I know untill 4 AM.

Happy May 17th to my fellow Norwegians!

If you have 2 minutes and 46 seconds to spare and are curious about this (yeah, yeah, I doubt it), you can watch this video made by an American traveller:

May 17th is huge in Norway, and our parades are a bit different than those you see on July 4th in the US, for example. It's almost exclusively children parading, there is no military presence, no big lorries with various figures and stuff and everyone is included.

A happy 17th May to all Norwegians everywhere, and also a happy 17th of May to all who are celebrating Galicia's most important public holiday - it's the día das letras galegas here in the chilly, bleak northwest corner. We celebrate by eating octopus, babbling the Galician language and drinking too much. Normal day then.

Gosh, it's sunny in Norway, isn't it? It's snowing here!

Happy SYTTENDE MAI!

Ooooooooooh! This is what Garrison Keillor would mention occasionally on Prairie Home Companion.

Best wishes on your national holiday, Norwegians!
