I just want to emphasize here the importance of having a muti-region player (or one that can EASILY be converted) because of the vast differences in software availability and quality. Like another here, I have several players. One is a first generation Playstation 3. The other is a cheap as chips Blu-Ray player that by entering a code easily changes the region which I use expressly for Region A Blu-rays (I am in Australia). After knowing many people who have bought the cheaper players like myself, they are much happier about the ability to play anything, enjoying the same durability than the way more expensive name brand units, than any possible disappointment over of loading time, etc. I believe most machines are made in China anyway, name brand or not. One we recommended for a relative is less that $100.00 and plays ANYTHING just fine and has been going strong for months now. The machine it replaced lasted for at least 5 years and was just a multi-region DVD player that cost about $40.00. The only reason it conked out was because she kept renting dirty, filthy discs from her library over and over. So again, if you have the money get 2 or 3. If you don't, get a cheap one that will play anything. The chances of being disappointed I believe are the same. At least you will not have spent too much and can probably return it if it's from a reputable dealer. The other interesting aspect about the cheaper ones is that if you don't have an HDMI ready TV it has a much better chance of being adaptable with the RCA plugs and wires already in the box.

I still haven't gone multi-region. Living in the UK, I had to with DVD, so many great movies not released outside of America, but I've been doing alright with Blu-ray, less than a handful of region A films I'd like. I gave it some serious thought when Kino released a slew of United Artists movies locked to A, but so far there's only two I'd like (What's New Pussycat & A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum), & they could get a release in Europe. I don't know about America, but in England you have to pay about twice the price for a multi-region machine, & it does narrow your choice of what to buy.

When I lived in the UK, I often saw ads for a Peterborough based company that specialized in in chipped machines. I think this is the site. Prices seem reasonable.
