You know what was special about MR John Patrick Scott, i don't think he ever did a bad score in his life, much underrated, the first score i heard of MR Scott was the opening theme of Beserk-67- Joan Crawford, Michael Gough decades ago, i feel in love with that great theme, he never fail me since.
Completely agree. He's one one these guys almost nobody list on their favorites list, but he is deserving.
I remember seeing SHOOT TO KILL in a theater in Florida. A solid movie movie. Not great but a crowd pleaser. The audience was mostly seniors ($2 matinee or something), but they were into it. In the climax I heard an old lady a couple rows behind me say,"Shoot him in the eye!"

Got this one a couple of days ago and it's every bit as good as I remember it to be. It's a cross between the stuff Kamen was doing and Jerry-like synth stuff but it has the Scott-stamp all over it. He is/was underrated and those who claim he can't write action music should really take a very good listen. They just don't (can't) write music like this anymore. Zimmer-clones, take note!

I haven't been around here much, and I just found out about this release. I've been hoping for this for a LONG time!!
Anyone who hasn't seen the film should give it a shot. Very enjoyable. Spectacular scenery. This film brought Sidney Poitier back to the movies after about 20 years away. That's pretty telling. And there are plenty of other familiar faces, too.
And, FWIW, I love the saxophone in this score. But then again, I'm a sax player, so I might be a bit biased!

This is such a wonderul score. I think I`ve listened to the end credits 20 times now. But I also enjoy the rest of the score. The theme is truly memorable.

"Shoot to Kill" is my personal favorite release by Intrada so far this year. Amazing score!

Anyone who likes John Scott and doesn't have this yet NEEDS to buy it today before Intrada makes it unavailable at the end of today. It is an incredible score and honestly BLEW ME AWAY. It might even be my favorite John Scott score, which is really saying something because he's a fantastic composer. If Lukas Kendall goes to the trouble to post kudos on a release like this, you know it's something special....

I always wanted this one (after hearing it in the film and the one track on the Screen Themes compilation), but I hardly buy anything these days due to £££££. I'm not even buying any Goldsmiths, it's that tight right now. If I miss SHOOT TO KILL, I miss it. Sad, but the world won't end.

I know how you feel as I myself am prioritizing Goldsmiths (since he's my favorite composer) and ignoring almost everything else since I left my job managing Joel's and went back to school and little income. HOWEVER, this one you should really make an exception for. It has many Goldsmithian elements (ie. awesome mixed meter action music, and the synths at times sound like Goldsmith). It's really an awesome non-Goldsmith score for a Goldsmith fan.
Trust me, if you make an exception and take the plunge on this one, you *won't* regret it, even if you have to postpone getting some Goldsmith score.

I knew I already liked the Main Theme from the End Title that was on the old Varese Screen Themes CD that Scott did some conducting on.
I had read that the score was somewhat monothematic by some people around here, so approached my first play of the Intrada CD with a bit of trepidation, but I needn't have worried.
While the main theme is pretty much ever present, Scott is too good a composer to allow a brilliantly memorable main theme to get in the way of regular development, interesting motifs, solid tension/action scoring and inventive orchestrations.
I love the echoing sax effect in track 7, which really evokes the great outdoors and the remote mountain locations and the powerhouse 10 minute finale track is breathtakingly spot-on, changing mood and tempo to match the onscreen action perfectly, whilst also making a fine stand-alone listen.
Also, while I sometimes jettison the more shorter transitional cues on some of my soundtrack CD's, I find the ones here make for a great change of mood and respite from the constant theme and action riff scenarios.
Once again, Bravo Mr Scott.
