Was Michael Kamen involved in scoring the tracks Heather Dies/Who Wants to Live Forever (on the Immortal Records CD). Did Kamen work with Queen on any of the tracks or did they work independently? Just want to clear up which tracks Kamen was involved in...
Kamen conducted the orchestral bridge in Who Wants To Live Forever heard in the film during the montage when Beatie Edney is revealed to have grown so much older; he collaborated on the orchestral arrangement with Brian May. The songs are available, some in altered form (not Who Wants To Live Forever) on the Queen record A Kind of Magic. This, the relevant singles and the Edel release of suites from the first three film scores are the only legal sources of music from Highlander.
Thanks for info so far.... but can anyone tell me what parts Kamen collaborated on... Are there parts that he just orchestrated or did he compose some themes in conjunction with Brian May etc...
As far as I know, the only theme that was a collaboration was the Who Wants to Live Forever/love theme, which May composed and Kamen orchestrated as the love theme for the film.
I want this score in a huge way. For years and years. I know many others do, too. It's music of the highest caliber. The Edel CD et al. just isn't enough.
I know our laments are getting repetitive, but I'm begging now. Can't someone PLEASE do it??

I think the existing, 30-minute(?) selection is pretty fine, although it could do with a good remastering. The sound isn't too good on the HIGHLANDER trilogy CD. I guess a slight expansion wouldn't hurt either. Perhaps some 15-20 minutes more if it's musically worthwhile, and still hold together as an album.

The Edel CD has only about 20 minutes. Are you referring to what the City Of Praguers put out?
Their playing is gorgeous, make no mistake, but I've got to have Kamen's original. His soul is in there!
Ah, was it only 20 minutes on the Edel? That's the one I own. It's a fine selection, I think, and it works like gangbusters like an extended suite, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to add some more minutes to the mix, as long as they make it flow nicely. And improve the sound quality a bit!
but I guess it wouldn't hurt to add some more minutes to the mix,
Et tu, Thor?
That was Thor´s evil twin....Thor would never say that an extended score would be fine...right?
Of course I would. I'm not totally unreasonable. My main issue is that the presentation should be REPRESENTATIVE of the score while still holding up as a singular listening experience, and in the case of HIGHLANDER, I could see that 20 minutes may not cut it (even though they work great on their own too!). Same with GREMLINS. The single score cut(?) on the existing soundtrack isn't exactly representative of the whole score, so an expansion is called for -- and probably coming soon.
I really wish someone would release this...it is definitely a Holy Grail of mine.
I know there's a lot of red tape involved, but please, please, please?!?
It's not like no-one's tried.
Co-incidentally, perhaps, I believe that some (all?) of the rights to the Highlander franchise are owned by the same people who own the music for SLIPSTREAM...
Just thought id bump this as the year approaches its end and i always hope ' is this the year it'll finally appear?' Is there even a chance that this is currently on a label's 'working on' List? All the Kamen releases recently have been most welcome and the talk of expanding others is always great too but there really...Can be only One!,,
