SyFy is running a marathon of TGAH today...I always enjoyed this show but why the hell didn't Ralph just go out and practice flying & landing? Like on a soft sandy beach or grass field? Robert Culp steals the show of course.

I think if he ever flew and landed correctly, the show would have been sued by the Superman producers. I seem to recall a sort of lawsuit like this when the series was on. It was a very good show. We were lucky that a big screen version was never made with Adam Sandler or the spin off show that's on the special features of the DVD.

I thought Concetta Sellecchia was "all that".

Ralph should have worn a Batman/Captain America style mask over his head to protect his identity. He also should have had a "superhero" name.

I thought Michael Pare would go onto bigger things after the show finished. But 'Streets of Fire' and 'The Philidelphia Experiment" didn't fare to well at the box office.

The powers of the red suit were somewhat broad, but still were "similar" enough to the abilities of Superman that Warner Bros., the owners of DC Comics, filed a lawsuit against ABC, which was ultimately dismissed.

It's my recollection that he did, but had so many crashes I guess it hurt too much to try except in real emergencies.

Love that theme song!

I may be wrong in this but I dont think the show ever aired in the UK.

In fact I only really know of it due to all the exposure Starlog gave it at a time I was an avid reader of that magazine (in the pre-internet days it was one of the best sources of upcoming movie info).

I was besoted with Faye Grant when I was younger and I know she was in it in a supporting role. And Connie Sellica who was always stunning in Hotel, which we did get in the UK (I stayed at the Fairmont last year, where they shot the "St Gregory"and there was no-one as stunning as her working there, although Carmen on reception when I checked in was quite fit!). And I loved Mike Post's theme (still do).

But apart from the opening credits on youtube I've not seen anything of this show at all. From the photos I've seen ai always thought the costume looked awful though, although the concept of the show always struck me as pretty good.

William Katt, who played Ralph, hated the costume at first, which was not the only common thing both in and out of character. From interviews on the DVD supplements, we learn that Katt and Robert Culp (Bill Maxwell) did not like each other at first, either. They grew to enjoy working together, just as the characters did.

Joey Scarbury, who sang the title song, also recorded "covers" for many episodes, such as "Rocket Man" in the pilot, "Eve of Destruction" in "Operation Spoilsport", "Bad Moon Rising" in "Hog Wild" and others. I read that there was a problem with licensing, so all those songs were changed in the home video releases. "Classical Gas" was the one episode when original music should have been used, as Ralph's class had formed a band and got the opportunity for exposure in front of a huge audience. Unfortunately, the replacement music was just as bad as all the other episodes.

(Since I audio recorded all the episodes during original broadcast, I stubbornly edited the original music back in. At least I can watch the episodes on my home media center without wincing.)

It is a fun show with many great episodes. Probably the best out of all three seasons was "Lilacs, Mr. Maxwell," when Bill falls for a Russian spy. The episode was written and directed by Robert Culp.

If you accept the premise, the fact that Ralph didn't wear some kind of mask is ludicrous since he wanted his identity hidden. All the bad guys see his face.

Superman doesn't wear a mask, yet we're supposed to believe that no one recognizes him when he puts on a pair of glasses and becomes Clark Kent. Besides, it doesn't matter if the bad guys see Ralph. Look what happened to the ones who talked—like Johnny Sanova in the episode "Dreams."

It's part of the shtick, like the bad flying. (Actually, Ralph always managed to fly pretty well when he wasn't thinking about the flying.) Ralph was always embarrassed by The Suit, until "Captain Bellybuster" gave him a new perspective on the matter.

I'm now buying the ANCHOR BAY sets which have better picture and sound and more supplements. The MILL CREEK versions are more compressed to fit on less discs, which I believe compromises the picture, plus the MILL CREEK sets don't have the spinoff pilot or as many supplements.

There's no fun in the premise if Ralph can just fly like he was born to do it. Learning to use a 'supersuit' is a great hook for series television. Besides, there is great humor to made of the fact that it came with an instruction manual (which the characters lost).
I like this show. It was very exciting to me as a 12 yr old, and still holds up watching it today.

I always though 'Chuck' was something of a remake with chuck in the Ralph role. Adam Baldwin would have made a great Bill Maxwell-type with license to chew up and spit out the scenery.

DC was suing out of their ass. Like every superhero comic for 50 yrs wasn't already a take-off on Superman.

I thought Concetta Sellecchia was "all that".

So did John Tesh.

I remember seeing Selleca at a Pizza Restaurant on Ventura Blvd. years ago with then husband Buck Rogers Gil Gerard and their baby. I remember sitting pretty close to them and they were not happy campers. Tesh was still working on Entertainment Tonight at that time.
