Need far greater brains than I on this....

I saw it maybe mid to late 80's, and it looked like it was made around that time. May well have been a TV movie. Man gets struck (I think) by lightening, and finds he has certain abilities after this such as running fast and shooting lightening bolts from his fingers. Scientists warn him that overusing his abilities could stop his heart.

This is about all I remember....anyone got a clue?

I was thinking the same thing but of course Powder was made in the 90's, it could have been one of those cheap TV movies[might have been a pilot] it sound like something made in Japan, Was it an American film, by the way talking about Powder, Goldsmith the great wrote a lovely theme for the film, there is one part of that theme that is PURE PURE BEAUTY, 4 NOTES, it just sends my emotions flying, the beauty of film music, the beauty of Goldsmith's music.

It doesn't seem quite enough of a plot to sustain a film, or a TV series; it makes me think of Ray Bradbury Theater or Amazing Stories or something along those lines.

How about The Flash, a superhero TV series?

Doesn't sound familiar, but now I want to see it because it's the same setup I once had for a story I was trying to write. LOL!

The Flash did involve fast running and lightning (which struck the laboratory and caused the accident that gave him his powers), but he didn't shoot lightning from his fingertips. Plus it aired in the early-90s.

It's not Powder.

I saw this film as well when I was a kid. If I remember correctly, he is given some sort of bracelet that harnesses his lightning power so he doesn't over use it. The only other thing I remember is that it was made for TV.

Great, now this one is going to drive me nuts.

Did some more looking and found Misfits of Science. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misfits_of_Science

It was a (short-lived) TV series, but it had a two-hour premiere episode that you might have seen rerun on its own and thus thought was a TV movie. One of the characters, Johnny B., is a rock musician who can hurl lightning bolts and run at superhuman speeds after being electrocuted on stage. Nothing about a bracelet is mentioned, though, but I thought I'd throw that one out there.

Thanks - that's not it, but looks interesting enough to track down anyway smile

I vaguely remember the main character of this movie being a bit of a Tom Selleck look-a-like, if that's any help whatsoever....

How about Northstar, a TV pilot movie starring Greg Evigan?

From IMDB:
"An astronaut's ship passes through a strange magnetic field on its way back to Earth, and when he emerges from it after landing, he finds he has acquired superhuman powers and a super-genius IQ"

I remember seeing this, and it did give him some sort of super powers, but using these powers did indeed lead to over-exerting himself to the point where it was dangerous to his health.

Again, no, that's not it - but actually that one looks worth searching out too!

I am trying to find a science fiction/fantasy film from the 1980's (?), a character had a bow that could shoot energy bolts, does anyone know what it is?

Never heard of it but since I like a challenge did a Google search and came up with "The Archer: Fugitive from the Empire" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082027/ Is this it?

This is likely what you're thinking of. The Power Within, starring Art Hindle, Edward Binns, David Hedison, and Eric Braeden. I remember seeing it when it originally aired. )

I remember Art Hindle for his looks more than anything. Wasn't he in some series where he had clones?
