Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim is considered one of the great songwriters of the 20th century, but his film music is unjustly neglected in my opinion. A case in point is his score to 1970's "The Adventurers", based on a novel by Harold Robbins. The Paramount Records LP soundtrack was a pretty good representation of the orchestral score, with action and suspense cues, big band jazz and Bossa Nova. The record album was quickly forgotten after the movie bombed at the box office, and as far as I know has never been re-released in any form. Any one else knows or likes this score? Jobim also wrote music for many Brazilian films.
Some day I'm going to get around to watching this film.
I liked the film when I saw it on the big screen at the time of its release, but upon seeing it again not too long ago it was a bit hard to watch. Candice Bergen is swell to look at, but Bekim Fehmiu doesn't carry off the lead role very convincingly. A good performance from Ernest Borgnine I thought. The critics weren't kind to it as I recall. The Harold Robbins book was much better than the film IMO. Can't remember much about the music.
Also not to be missed is Quincy Jones and the Ray Brown Orchestra recording of The Adventurers on the Symbolic record label. Not having heard the original soundtrack LP I'm not sure how different the arrangements are but it is a great listen along with Sid Ramin's Stiletto.

Also, if you like both Jobim and film music, his 1972 album "Jobim" contains about 25 minutes' of impressionistic orchestral music, some of which was composed for films. Again, I believe these themes were arranged by Claus Ogerman.
He did a lot of work for film and television here in Brasil, and one of my favorite themes of him is the instrumental for the mini-series "Anos Dourados (1986)", a really great melody.
