Yes, this is enhanced mono.

Bosley Crowther's original 1957 NY Times review is not kind to the music:

http://www.nytimes.com/movie/review?res=9507E1D9103EE23BBC4D51DFBF66838C649EDE

It's interesting to read that review and gain an understanding of what film critics thought of those Cinerama films when they were first released. With the Cinerama travelogues all gradually being released in Smilebox, it's fascinating to see them from a historical perspective but as entertainment they are fairly dire and SEARCH FOR PARADISE was certainly not one of Tiomkin's best scores either.

To each his own - I always found it a great listen!

I totally agree. Whatever the sound aspects; stereo, enhanced stereo, mono, I found the sound quality excellent and totally to my liking.

If it gets Cody's seal of approval, then that's good enough for me! smile

Yes! As I mentioned earlier, it may not be true stereo but what the hell - the point is that it lifts the presentation of the music to a much better level (maybe as good as we're ever gonna get?) from what was previously available. At a mere £7.99 for sale here in the UK it is a real bargain.

I'd say one other thing also : the inclusion (or, "lifting") of the Elmer Bernstein-conducted opening track from his FMC recording of this score fits seamlessly on to this disc. It all works terrifically well.

(OK, I admit we could have done without the Hugo Winterhalter efforts that conclude the CD)...

And if it's good enough for you Peter then it's good enough for me!
