I wish one of the specialty labels would release this incredible and hard-to-find Frank Comstock Warner LP on CD. It ranks up there with Russ Garcia's "Fantastica" as one of the best postwar outer space albums ever.
If this is not some wayward entry in the Amazon database—if the album was actually pressed to CD—then maybe it's time to hit eBay and the other used album outlets?
What? You mean when I said "then maybe it's time to hit Lord Voldemort and the other used album outlets?" I'm still learning the rope around here—such as digital files are evil and only physical CDs are good, that kind of thing. Forgive my blasphemy.
Oh, I was speaking from a sonic standpoint only. I have no moral issues with "unmentionables" if the real thing is not available.
I think that the version on Amazon was mastered from vinyl and not very well at that. I have no issues with CDs mastered from vinyl if there is no better choice and if it is done well.
Still, if the masters are available, this would be a great one for one of the specialty labels to hop on.
Oh, thanks for the clarification. But now you've got me curious—I want to hear this album! The situation reminds me of something I read in The Notebooks of Lazarus Long:
On the planet Tranquille around KM849 (G-O) lives a little animal known as a "knafn." It is herbivorous and has no natural enemies and is easily approached and may be petted—sort of a six-legged puppy with scales. Stroking it is very pleasant; it wiggles its pleasure and broadcasts euphoria in some band that humans can detect. It's worth the trip.
Someday some bright boy will figure out how to record this broadcast, then some smart boy will see commercial angles—and not long after that it will be regulated and taxed.
In the meantime I have faked that name and catalog number; it is several thousand light-years off in another direction. Selfish of me—
