This is due out on dvd Tuesday. I'm eager to see this new show set in 1956 London about a news show in tv's infancy days in The UK. I'll find my own impressions come Tuesday night, but in the meantime, any British (or American) viewers catch this when it aired originally? Some have compared it (rightly or wrongly) to America's 'MAD MEN', which is why my interest in it is peaked. However superficial it may be, I think America is probably depicted much sleeker in America, 1960 than Britain, 1956.
I saw the first episode, but didn't stick with it, I found it uninvolving with no pace or narative drive. It lost a lot of viewers on its run, but the people who liked it really liked it.
This is an excellent series. Exciting, compulsive viewing that gets better every week. A first class cast, particularly Ben Whishaw, Domiinic West and Romola Garal keep you riveted throughout.
The second series is even more exciting and has the added attraction of the marvellous Peter Capaldi to boot.
The ending had me groaning because we have to wait months for the next series.
