Hey everyone, If you're interested in La-La Land's upcoming issue of 1941, you might want to check out this exclusive interview I conducted with Mike Matessino over at JWFan: http://www.jwfan.com/?p=929 In the interview, I go "beyond the liner notes" to cover some aspects of the release not covered within, and get Mike's thoughts on the film, the score, and various other things relating to the unique Spielberg/Williams collaboration. Enjoy!

Q: Before you go, any hints you can give us on what Williams releases could be coming down the pipeline soon? A: There’s one I worked on that I expect will be announced before the ink completely dries on this interview. I wonder if Mike might've inadvertently dropped a hint as to what the next Williams release will be when, earlier in the interview he said: "Two other cue titles were shortened by one word for, as Captain Hook might say, reasons of good form." I don't know anybody who quotes Captain Hook so casually, do you? The quote might be at the forefront of his mind because of his recent professional duties. What do you think, folks? (. . . And how long does it take for the ink to dry on an interview published on the internet?)

I am wondering if the title Mike referred to will be revealed at the 1941 Q&A tonight in LA?

You're a terrific actor, Jason. For a second, I really believed Mike hasn't told you the title yet.

I honestly don't know what the title Mike referred to is! If it's not revealed tonight in LA, I am guessing it either refers to something coming soon from FSM, or not coming from the "big 5" independent labels at all. Intrada - next release is an Elmer Bernstein Varese - no indication that a new club batch is coming soon Kritzerland - MM hasn't work with them before La-La Land - If they are the ones, it will hopefully be revealed in tonight's Q&A. If not, their next pre-announcement shouldn't be until Tuesday October 4th FSM - The most likely candidate, they announce randomly, and MM works with them a lot. An out of left-field suggestion is that Lucasfilm is actually announcing remastered and complete Star Wars scores, and they hired MM to produce them. That would be a dream come true!

Great read on the 1941 cd. Im all worked up for it. The cliffhanger at the end sounds very promising. But HOOK is a must if it should happen for a Christmas release or early. Plus JURASSIC PARK Trilogy is also scheduled for BLU RAY also next month. So an expanded cd set of that at 5000 units would be more than just tremendous. Ironicaly, more than a year ago I wrote an email to MV asking if the following films...(- I had a list of titles which I wanted to see in expanded form)- and he wrote me back that many big A grade films and composers scores were in their offing...and since then we have seen many of these A scores in their catalogue. To wit: BATMAN, BATMAN BEGINS, STAR TREK V, HOME ALONE, FIRST KNIGHT, KRULL etc.. So Im hoping HOOK & JURASSIC PARK will be in the offing some day very soon. Just keep 'em coming! This year is gonna be the BEST YEAR for the fans! Amer

Also on the pictured track listing there is a note about Track 16, 18, 22 being co-written / written by other people. Which CD is it referring too? John Williams didn't co-write the score with anyone; Those notes simply refer to existing music that Williams interpolated into his original score. Specifically, CD1, track 16 contains interpolation of "Anchors Away" by A. H. Miles and D. Savino CD1, track 18 contains interpolation of "Deep In The Heart Of Texas" by D. Swander and J. Hershey CD1, track 22 contains interpolation of "The Duckworth March" by W.L. Duckworth What's interesting to note is that MANY other tracks include existing music interpolated in - Strawberry Roan, The Rakes Of Mallow, Jingle Bells, I'm Popeye The Sailor, etc - but those aren't listed on the back cover. The liner notes, however, point every instance out.

"Ink drying' was perhaps an ill-chosen metaphor. What I meant by it was that everyone interested would be through reading it and looking for something new. And just to keep things interesting I'll clarify further... there are actually TWO Williams releases I worked on that are coming out soon. Mike

Do the two have anything in common? Might they both have a shark in them . . . or dinosaurs?

Interview done. From now on the question gets answered: "there's always something in the pipeline." Enjoy 1941 first! Mike
