I will also drop streaming like a hot potato if there are huge rate hikes for individual services -- and also if my internet provider hikes rates or starts a metered system which, in effect, would be a rate hike. Let's raise a toast to the impending demise of the golden age of physical media...welcome brave new, expensive, streaming world.

So now Amazon is upping the ante, creating their own Roku-like product, that also works as a game controller of some kind.

Amazon prime has gone up $20 -- so a year's membership will be $99. I will not be renewing at that price with so many other prices going up like rent, gas, electric, etc., etc.. I sent Amazon an email that unfortunately due to inflationary increases across the Board in my life, some fluff had to go -- and unfortunately they were a part of the fluff.

I had both the mail and streaming services of Netflix for several years, but could rarely find much that I wanted to stream, so would often go months without streaming a thing, until I realized that it was wasted on me. But I've long had AT&T's full U-verse with tons of HD premium channels, so it's pretty hard for Netflix to compete with that. Nor have I been that impressed with the Netflix original programming -- thought their version of "House of Cards" de-fanged the principal character played by Kevin Spacey, although I cancelled before season 2 started -- but haven't been encouraged by reviews I've read of it.

Currently Apple still lets a customer download their video purchases, thus having the ability to "own" or hold onto a copy locally. I assume Amazon is all streaming? Of course I can play any of my iTunes playlist as well. Further more I can convert any video/movie to mp4 and play it on my Apple TV via iTunes. I assume Amazon Fire doesn't have that feature. I surmise the day will come when iTunes switches to streaming only, so I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
